Default How would i know if my valves are bent? What happens?

My car won't start i was wondering could it be my valves being bent? How would i know if my valves are bent?I just changed my timing belt, water pump, tensoner, and distributor...

My car skipped timing the other day so i did the timing change...The belt didnt break tho..The tensoner was bad..

What else could cause the can not to start? Thanks Alot!

Ps..If my valves are bent would my timing belt spin?My car just wont turn over...If its not my timing what else could it be and how much should it cost...

Usually you will hear a ticking sound from the engine if your valves are bench.

Does your radio work? headlights? ect. Might be your battery.

Double check your work according to the manual you followed, if you followed one.

Seems like it would be a problem with the timing belt. Your engine should crank if your distributor is hosed, you just won't get a spark.

Yup, if you have bent valves, your engine will start but the it will idle real bad, not smooth. And symptom will also be power lost.

my car has been idling funny during the day.....and it seems like a bit of power is lost, but i know i havent overrevved....hit the rev limiter once or twice accidentally but immediately shifted...i think its my distributor or ignitor.....

my car wont start either. i replaced a broken timiing belt , and balance belt. the distributer checks out. i took my headers off and it seems like either the intake set or the exhausts set have bent(dont know which set it is yet but its all 8 of them). pistons still rotate normally. im going to replace them today. but with the feed back you guys posted then this might not be my issue

OLD SCHOOL TRICK TO CHECK FOR BENT VALVES:

-Get a uncreased piece of white lined paper (Not construction paper or similar its too thick)

-Let your car warm up to operating temp and allow it to idle

-Hold the paper flat over your exhaust so it covers the end completely

-Watch the paper closely, if all is normal it should just keep flapping outward. If you have a bent valve the paper will get sucked into the exhaust before it is pushed out

Only other way I've seen it done without taking the head off is using a fiber cam

Same idea yes, it detects a valve leak

For the OP, A MM&Y of car would help.

You also need to clarify, "My car won't start" and "My car just wont turn over"

Which is it???? it will not start or it will not turn over?

Does engine crank, [turn over] but not start, [run] or does engine not even turn over, [crank] [starter not working]? 94

So I think I have a similar issue... but not really but close... I have a gsr b18c1 and it had a bad oil leak... on the highway two days ago I was going about 80mph when the car starting shaking more than usual I started to smell oil then I heard a loud shriek and my engine shut off... I cruised off to the shoulder and tried to crank it but no turn over. After getting it towed back to my garage I cranked and noticed only one cam is spinning the other is stuck... so I'm guessing something went wrong inside the head possibly the oil pump or valves bending completely and seizing the motor... my question now is can I save the head or am I looking at replacing the head? so far no major damage done from the outside but i didn't get a chance to look inside the head yet due to a lack of tools

if a cam gets stuck while the motor is turning then it's probably siezed up.

compression test. easy, acurate, car dosent need to run, just turn over. or you can pull the valve cover and see if the top of the valves are the same hight. u will notice a hight difference if the valve is really bent bad. considering u slipped timing, u more then likely did. thats worse then breaking a belt.
