for the sRS light being on, you can take the fuse out that deals with airbag, not sure which one that is, but I can't help you on taking the steering off, I'm in the same situation myself..but yeah take the fuse out and light will go away..but then again, passenger side airbag probably will not work either if you have one

Some will say the airbag will work and some will say that you have to get a relay and plug it in the driver's side airbag. But, there is another option, you could replace the passenger airbag with an itr block off tray.

when doing anything with the airbag, i heard that removing the neg batery will keep the SRS light from lighting up afterwards.

any dealer can erase the light for u thru the obd port. as far as taking off the sterrling wheel:
1 disconnect the battery (this insures that ur air bag wont pop)
2 disconnect airbags from under the dash and the one for the passenger behind the glovebox (in case u **** something up and the passenger airbag pops)
3 take out the airbag in the steering wheel by unscrewing the screw on the sides of the wheel
4 disconnect airbag and pull it out of the wheel
5 u just lost the cruise and i think the horn too cus if i remember correctly, its all hooked up in a line
6 unbolt the 26mm ( i think) nut that came exposed after taking out the airbag
7 install ur hub
8 install quick release
9 hook up the new steering wheel
10 get into a car accident and smack ur face in the new sterring wheel (j/k)

I have heard that after you disconnect the neg. battery cable its a good idea to just let the car sit for a little bit.
Good Luck

actually when u disconnect the battery u should step on the brakes to make sure all the power is gone threwout the whole car
but that would probably work too
