How do you know you're not getting spark? Did you actually check to see if the plugs are actuall sparking?

"Set it" on the valve cover?

You need to make sure the spark plug is grounded, "setting" it on the VC is no guarantee it will ground properly. 94

^^ agreed. Especially since valve covers are painted lol.

Hold it to a bolt on the rad support.

Ohhhh, so you were cranking it over with the plug wires removed, right?

If so, then you've put a giant wooden stake right through the heart of your coil.

^^^ I'm thinking just the spark plug side removed to do the comp test. Not the entire wire removed.

Either way, the HT current had no place to go, so...

You need to unplug the connectors from the distributors before doing the comp test, to prevent power from getting to the coil in the first place.

it's not the fact that it's painted. the valve cover doesn't actually make metal to metal contact with the motor because of the seal and grommets. the only thing grounding it to the chassis is the tiny 16 gauge wire.

It has more to do with the paint, and if all you have is a 16ga wire grounding your VC, fix it.

The "stock" VC ground, [Sub Ground Cable] would easily handel the load of a spark plug, it's the paint, trust me. 94

well then. i retract that statement
and yea, i was thinking about the other little wire that comes off the vc ground. that ones more like an 18 gauge though. but yea, the vc is probably something like a 10 or 12 gauge
