Replacing fuel filter
did search on recent/archive found nothin....so where is the fuel filter..and is it hard to replace it? im tryin to replace my 96 RS teg fuel filter. step into doin this and tools required will be greatly appreciated. thanxs for ure help fellow ht peers. and yes dont mind my sn.

Your fuel filter is against the firewall, next to your battery. Its relatively easy to replace, just make sure you have a towel under it so you dont spew gasoline on the floor and relieve the pressure from your gas tank. I cant remember the size of the bolts though, you can figure it out on your own from there

Make sure you use a flare-nut wrench for the lower hard-line fitting. It's like a closed box wrench, but there is an opening just big enough to fit over the hard line. It grips the fitting on 5 sides instead of only 2 like a typical open-end wrench, so much less likely to round the fitting.
Also when you loosen that hard-line fitting, remember that it's upside down, so you have to turn the wrench to the RIGHT (righty loosey in this case). I forgot about that last time and almost did round off my fitting until I realized that.

Estimate 30 minutes to do it. Factoring in all the random minutes of tool search etc.
Get a towel under the fuel filter so that you keep it clean as possible because the fuel will get everywhere when you remove it.

my 96 LS went for 140,000 miles when i upgraded to an aem.... nothing was wrong with the filter, just wanted some bling...
if you run cheap gas then you are much more likely to pump trash into your tank and thus clog your filter.
amoco/bp premium is all i've ever ran... never had a problem
except that one OLD and BUSTED bp in BFE i went to once... and got detonation from 93...

I try to change mine every 30K or so.

bought it used with 7k miles for $40...
I would have bought it new probably, but it looks nice and i gotta have that BLING factor. besides, it was the only aem fuel system component i didn't have. hehe

the way i did... i left the fuel filter/bracket bolted to the firewall and pried on that bolt you are talkin about and it broke loose after a couple good tugs.
if you unbolt the filter from the firewall it would be pretty hard to keep the filter from moving when you are wrenching on that bolt... that and you'll bend the hardlines a little.

my car was sitting for a year with the engine pulled so fuel pressure wasn't an issue...
put a wrench on the banjo bolt on top of your filter... then put a rag over it... then break the banjo bolt loose to relieve the pressure. the rag will catch most of the gas... the rest will evaporate. i'm guessing you've already done that though since you didn't ask. oh, and don't be smokin while doing this....
