which header?

I am getting a new header since I think my current header is becoming a lil restricitive with my current mods. I was thinking about the ITR JDM 4-1 and also a new 2.5 cat. The ITR JDM 4-1 does not have a true 2.5" collector, but 2 3/8" instead. Is it worth all the trouble and money for just 1/8" increase in diameter?
Should I get the DC JDM 4-1 with a true 2.5" collector? Should I geat a USDM DC 4-1 with a 2.25" collector? or should I keep my current setup?

mario, ur right about ur current header being restrictive. same as me.
go for toda, spoon, mugen, or JDM. i dont recommend the JDM DC sports one
but thats a personal choice

is that 176 hp/torque 125 your numbers on the dyno??
or is that ur goal??

Re: which header? (1fastGSR)

i really do not have that much money for a Mugen, Spoon or Toda header!! those cost like $900. I was leaning towards the DC since it a true 2.5" collector. The ITR JDM is 2.375". Also, how would the USDM DC 4-1 with the 2.25" colector do?
Would I lose low/mid range with a 4-1 design? Thanks

Re: which header? (1fastGSR)

With your current setup you'd certainly gain from a header "maybe a JDM brand" with the 2.5" collector. There are a few that we toss around in the R forum: Toda, Spoon, Mugen, Hytech and a US custom model handmade by SMSP by SMS products. They are all great quality and all have different designs for different applications. Of course if you feel that you are restricitng your motor then Do Not go to another 2.25"header. JDM is usually the way to go with the exception of the SMSP model.

You of course will need a new High Flow cat to mate with yor new pipes as well, if you are happy with the Carsound piece I'd just buy another in the 2.5" size.

I have a JDM brand header "which shall remain nameless unless you really poke and prod," and a Carsound 9004 cat. To be honest I went from an LS teg and studyin all the tech stuff in the Integra forums here and on SHO, to relearning what will work on an R and am still learning everyday. So my word is IMHO and definately not scripture. You need to investigate further and search alot. All I have to say is that my header and cat were the biggest bolt-on mod for HP performance gains so far.

Good luck, Don't shortchange yourself, Remember you get what you pay for! Just don't waste your money, do alot of research first, and make Educated decisions.

Re: which header? (1fastGSR)

The USDM DC headers are 2" not 2-1/4". If they were 2-1/4" they wouldn't bolt up to the stock cat.

Agreed, USDM DC headers are 2". Not 2.25"

I guess Comptech lied to me!

I believe their cat back system is 2-1/4", just like a Magnaflow.

Hmmm... How much for the Spoon? I'm currently replacing my entire exhaust with ITR, and I want all 2.5 if I can get it.

i would personally go with the DC JDM 4-1

Re: which header? (1fastGSR)

if your on a budget get the jdm dc 4-1 header with the 2 1/2' collector they only cost like $300 and there is no difference in performance comapre to the jdm itr 4-1 headers...

I thought that Hytech headers were custom built to you specs like SMS?

Stick with DC JDM 4-1. I'd go with SS if you can find one. It'll create a significant improvement over the Comptech. Wait for the more expensive headers until you get more aggressive cams.

The Hytech is a USA made header.
