H22 swap
I don't know if this has been posted before, but I wanted to know if anyone on here has or know's someone who has swaped an h22 in their integra. I haven't heard much about it so cuz I was debating whether or not to get one. Any information good or bad about this swap would be greatly appreciated thanx!!

Re: H22 swap (pkrls)
search is your friend, it has been done a few times already

Re: H22 swap (Loveless)
ive been trying to search...and its all fucked up haha...

Re: H22 swap (UnionCity LS)
yea... for some reason our search function doesn't work...

Re: H22 swap (pkrls)
Its veru possible to do so but I dont know why u would...a B-series motor is much better supported in the aftermaket and has alot more potential with less money..now what more can u ask for?? H-series are nuthin but headaches especially when u start makin some real power...

Re: H22 swap (Turbologist)
torque my friend, torque https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: H22 swap (OBDI JEDI)
and the weight distribution is not a problem because someone weighed his car before and after the swap and the difference is no more than 100lb.

Re: H22 swap (H22EK)
Well I also do autocrosing and stuff like that and i heard u have to change ur spring rate once u get the motor in and what kind of problems are common when doing this swap stuff like that any thing really u can help me out with thanx.

Re: H22 swap (pkrls)
You can fix the weight issues by relocating the battery to the trunk, etc...
I used to own a 5th gen prelude, now I own a GSR... why? Because the H22 has basically NO aftermarket support. This makes parts more expensive while at the same time having fewer choices. Also, the H22 is very finicky so when you start making decent power... BOOM! They basically can't take any boost on stock sleeves and pistons. If you want to swap, and you're going to the engine close to stock, I might suggest it. |
Re: H22 swap (pkrls)
yea, I've heard the stuff about the spring rate too. I was also told by a friend who is a performance mechanic that the oil pan hangs a little lower and sometimes causes problems. He suggested the 2 liter block from the CRV with a Vtec head mod. You get the torque and the Vtec benefits.
He also recommended putting in type r pistons if you're going all motor. [Modified by steadyeddy, 10:09 PM 4/2/2003] |
Re: H22 swap (steadyeddy)
weight is one issue
another is the trans imo, above 8000 it doesnt want to shift which means you really have to be finicky in your parts selection in order to make sure that your powerband stays under that mark. |
Re: H22 swap (pkrls)
I know this OT. I'm interested as well. Any sites i can refer too?

Re: H22 swap (P)
H22 isn't really worth it unless you wanna go all out drag (where more weight over the front would be better). 100lbs is a lot. A B20VTEC would probably be cheaper, stronger, and definatly lighter than an H22. If you want to just do dragging, go for the H22, but prepare for headaches.

Re: H22 swap (Stealth 95 GS-R)
thanks andrew. I'm just looking for a strong daily-driver in my wife's TEG (aka my toy as well). I dunno, I drove my buddy's H22 eg. f***ing loved it.

Re: H22 swap (pkrls)
a couple of people have done the h22 swap recently on this board...too bad the search is fucked up...n e way...i was planning on doin the swap...and it does cost a lot to do it right..u need DSS custom axles, mounts (HASPORT, etc.), to get AC and PW steering u need to customize new lines..also need to do a slight rebuild on the motor as u would have to do with any other jdm motor that u bnought and dont know how many miles r on it...and customize the shifter harnes cables into the cabin and i dont think the shifter fits under the center console..im not 100% sure..
let me share some pics of a nice H22 teg..56k death!! http://www.hasport.com/News/Projects...a%20engine.jpg http://www.hasport.com/News/Projects...egra/shift.jpg all pics r from HASPORT.com here is the write up on the swap http://www.hasport.com/News/Projects/1994%20Integra.htm |
Re: H22 swap (Project H22DC4)
There's nothing wrong with an H22 in an accord, why would it cause so many problems in an integ?

Re: H22 swap (95 GaNgStA AcCoRd)
Im not a big fan of swaps to begin with but this swap must be the biggest waste of money!!!! If u need more torque there are so many different ways to go about it and much much cheaper also!!! ex. B20 https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: H22 swap (95GSRVtec)
B20 doesn't have 161tq. and 200hp, and neither does the B18c5 for that matter https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

Re: H22 swap (95GSRVtec)
Any sort of LS/VTEC or B20/VTEC setup will probably cost as much as a full B18C swap in the long run in order to do it right and have it reliable. Most H22 swaps I've seen are cheaper than B18C swaps.
And it's more difficult to get it to work in a Civic or Integra because the engine bay is physically smaller, plus the shifter linkage is completely different. However with all the mounts and linkage adapters from HASport and others out now, the hardest part really is the wiring. There is a kit for the shifter that simply bolts to the bottom of your car, all you have to do is cut the hole in the floor a bit larger and make 4 holes for the bolts. No welding is needed. |

Re: H22 swap (H22EK)
yes I do have some clue as to what I'm talking about, but no I haven't actually done this swap before, but a friend of mine swapped a J-spec H22 into his 97 Civic DX coupe last year, and he was telling me all about messing with the whole wiring harness and all. He said everything else was easy. And in case you're wondering, he is extremely mechanically inclined and has performed many swaps. He has since pulled the H22 out of the car since it no longer runs, and has put a B18B in its place, soon to have a VTEC head. He has also done a B17 swap into a 1990 hatch, and a B20/VTEC swap into a 96-00 hatch.

Re: H22 swap (H22EK)
the rudeness and profanity is uncalled for. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif The point that I was actually trying to make is that the swap IS fairly easy. I have extensive automotive wiring experience, so when I say the wiring is the hardest part, what I mean to say is that it's not that difficult.
