GSRs and pinstripes

I love my car, and it looks immaculate. However, the black double pinstripe on it makes it look so 1994 if you know what I mean. Every early G3 GSR Ive seen has this same pinstripe. Was this a standard feature? Im planning on taking it off tomorrow, and wondering if anybody has any advice on the procedure. It troubles me somewhat that it is 100% intact after 8 years with no chipping or peeling whatsoever.

Just use your fingernail...thats what I did to get rid of the hideous pinstripes on my friends civic.

I am taking them off. However, I want to know if anyone else has taken them off on an integra of around the same vintage. It seems like it possibly pose a problem taking them off of an 8 year old car.

I have a black 95 with dark colored double pinstripe. Most people, who dont know crap, say just peel it off with your fingernail. I have a chip mark in the front from one of these people who tried to peel it off and took off my paint. Then they said what I knew all along..."its painted on with a clear coat over it (possibly)". Several paint shops say they can wet sand it off. You need to try (minimally) to peel it off with your fingernail. If you can't (like my case) you need to have it wet sanded it off. good luck. It doesnt bother me that much so im leaving it. ALso it might be a newer color underneath which wont match the faded color to the rest of the car. Wet sanding however might fix it though.

stock pinstripe was a "sticker"- takes more than a fingernail to remove it, but a hairdryer and a little bit of bug and tar remover or goo-gone will do it.

All I have to say is that my fingernail didnt grow for the next 2 weeks. Its a long process. Bug & tar remover and fingernails will do the trick. Have some friends to help ya out.

In a Issue of Honda Tuning some old guy who owns a CW ITR put a nasty looking red double pinstripe on his R, also added a "Bosch Antennae" that sticks way up in the air and doesn't retract. And put some 17" Niches on his car. Took off the ITR spoiler too. He also added a sunroof. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmilep.gif http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthdown.gif Made his car look like total shit. The pinstripe was the worse though. They just look ghey as hell on a Integra. Take them off!

I remember that article in Honda Tuning.. and I still have nightmares about that car! How can you treat an ITR that way? How can you give a car like that space in your Honda Tuning magazine? I fully agree.. those pinstripes were pretty gay on that car. In fact that whole car was gay!

I borrowed from a friend what looks like a big round rubber eraser disc attached to my drill to get most of my stripe off, and used Goo-Gone for the remaining residue. The only problem I had was the color difference where the pinstripe was on the sides of the front bumper cover. The stripe was nasty when I took it off, all cracked and faded. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emhammer.gif

My pin stripes are hand-painted -- came that way from the dealer. They don't bug me enough to go through all that would be required to remove them, but I would prefer the clean look. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif

i used to have a 95 LS-SE and i took my gold ones off. MAKE SURE YOU START AT THE FRONT of the car where the pin stripes meet. i made this mistake from starting from the back on one side. if you dig the front with just your fingernail you can pull the entire fender off. then id use fishing wire for the rest but be careful not to scratch your paint....the final step is going to a home depot or home repair shop and buying "goof off" pour a little goup off on a rag and whipe the sticky marks left behind away. hey it worked for me.

Well, I finished taking the pinstripe off today, what a pain in the ass. It looks really clean though, and I am pleasantly surprised that there were no complications from taking off such an old pinstripe. My only gripe is that I have a very very slight "phantom" pinstripe due to the color variations, but this is hardly noticeable.

Yeah - I took the pinstripping off on my silver integra. I used rubbing compound since it was like "stuck" onto it. It took 4 hrs to do one side. What a pain in the ass that was. I was riding around w/ one side pinstripped one not for about 2 wks. I ended up doing the other side. The rubbing compound also left very small abrasions - but I fixed that up with some scratch out and glaze. Turned out pretty good. - Then I sold the car a month later. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emcrook.gif

Pinstripping sucks so bad. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/mad.gif
