Exedy stage 1 racing clutch
just got my clutch put in with stock resurfaced fly wheel..
exedy says i need to break it in for 750 miles, but i read on here that its only 500.
me: do i need to break in the clutch
mechanic: no, just drive normally
me: so when can i start redlining and shifting fast
mechanic: you're not suppose to
me: i know, but when can i start doing that
mechanic: never
my mechanic told me whenever im cruising(not accelerating) to alway take it out of gear, he also said that if I need to down shift say from 3rd to second, I should put it in neutral, let it slow a bit, then put it in 2nd
the thing is my old crx didnt have any brakes left so I always down shift to slow down or control my speed, my clutch was my brake, am I not suppose to do this?

Don't listen to your dumb mechanic who drives an old slush box suburban! Do what the Exedy guy says and break it in for 750 miles. Then its yours to beat on and do what you want. I've had a stage 3 for a year and since the break in, i beat it up all the time! It takes everything I give it. You should be good after the break in. Good luck!

Re: (Jeezer)
LOL@never Redline ...........
Break it in like your documentation says or you'll glaze it, highway miles don't really count. I have the same clutch and I know it seems like forever but it needs to be done. Then you can give er, it's a solid clutch and can take the shifts.
