I can't believe you bumped a 2 year old thread to say that? either way this thread is freakin awesome though, required reading for any ls vtec guys out there. I learned a ton, so thanks to those who contributed real info. this is why ht rules.

Re: exactally how do ls/vtec's screw up
there's a lot of bad info on here despite the good info too. do more research guys. the weak point to ls/vtec are the rod bolts. stock ls rods are just as strong as gsr or type r rods. the stock bottom end on a honda is very resilient. swap the rod bolts and you're fine to rev. it's been done, many peopl have been doing it for years now. if it didn't work, i highly down a guy like Larry at endyn would be doing it over and over and over.
when you do an ls/vtec, change your seals, get a fresh hone (and bore if need be) from a reliable honda experience machine shop, have everything balanced properly, use as much oem honda stuff as possible (gaskets and such). buy a girdle preferably from endyn. triple check everything. have someone who knows how to build engines check your work, degree your camshafts and check your p2v clearances twice, torque everything properly. AND invest in a good tune.

Good thread I guess but dang it's old.
Pretty much all you need to know about LS/VTEC is here:

Good write up man I does shed some light on a few things. Thanks but I am building a ls vtec and I'm using forged pistons and Crower rods with arp rod bolts but still setting rev to 8000 rpms. To me a good motor is powerfull but also needs to last witch means everything needs to work well together not just one component.
