Default Do JDM engines swaps pass smog in Cali???????

I need to get a new engine very soon and wanted to know if jdm engines pass smog in cali.

yes they can. just need to put the us legal counterparts onto the japanese motor. theres alot of archived topics that go indepth.

but simple answer...yes they can be smogged.

if it passes smog by CHP get a bar sticker.

it can pass easily with an EVAP purge selenoid and a USDM ECU ( which makes it a USDM head)

cool, cuz i have a 99 ls, motor needs to be replaced and ive been going through hell trying to find a usdm 99+ engine. But i heard they look at your vin# and when they see its from japan, u fail? can anyone correct me on that if im wrong?

As long as you have all the evap stuff & ecu like DC2SiR said, and you have a receipt for the japanese motor, shouldn't have any problems.

CHP doesn't deal with emissions buddy.

Dam last time i got state referee, the chp were the ones doing the inspection

BAR referee deals with emissions, CHP can sign the ticket off if the vehicle is completely emissions compliant. Exhaust, intake and minor infractions can be signed off by CHP. An emissions BAR ref ticket due to modified emissions equipment or engine swap usually goes straight to the BAR referee.
