Default distributor/ what wil happen??

I replaced my cap + rotor the other day. When I pulled the old cap + rotor off it was really messed up and I dont even know how it was running. My buddy says its most likey the bearings in the distributor. Well I dont have the money right now to get a new distributor so whats the worst that could happen from driving my car like this?? Besides ruining my new cap and rotor?? If nothing else will be damaged I will probably run the distributor into the ground until I can afford a new one. It stilll works fine its just noisy and my rotor seems to be spinning off balance. Its a OBD-0 90' integra.

he doesn't have money, but the worse thing that could happen to you when you are driving is it misfiring alot, causing your RPMS to jump, and maybe worst case your car turn off and not be able to start back up. Experienced this when i first bought my 92 DA

Yeah, Im broke as hell right now. I just bought a bunch of maintence stuff and a new radiator and when I was done working on the car I realized my dizzy was messed up. I thought the noise it was making was my valves but after the valve adjustment it didnt get any better. I can actually feel the dizzy shaking and my cap + rotor was pretty messed up but the car still ran fine. Aside from the loud noise coming from the dizzy.

I want to get a new one so it will probably be a while before I can afford it. I just wanted to make sure I didnt risk doing any damage to anything else by running it into the ground. If the worse case scenario is my engine dieing on me I'm fine with that. I got AAA and plenty of free tows left.

I had a bearing seize in mine. From what i was told when it siezed it caused the cam to stop for a second, making the timing belt jump, become slack and bent up the tensioner. It sucked. and at the time I did not have to tools or time or skills to work on my own car so i had to pay someone to do it. I did take the distrubtor off and i could see that the beaing was seized and there was a bunch of burnt up crap on the outside(melted bearing)

****, why did you have to tell me that.

I was hoping it wouldnt do anything to the engine when it goes out. I think my bearings are messed up and thats whats causing all this so now you got me paranoid about it siezing. I'm broke and this is my only car I have to get to work and back. Not good.

Well, at least get a used one from junkyard or ebay, that would at least get you going for a while. If you think dizzy is expensive, guess what, towing and lost of transportation is more expensive when you can't get to work.

Your bearing might not seize right away. Mine had just started making some noise, and then it seized right away.

I would go to some junk yards or a used prts place and see if they can get you one. I know I have got some stuff pretty cheap from these types of places

well the censor inside the distributor in my 94 Rs failed last summer and well, it cost me 645$ canadian dollars at the dealer two get a completely brand new distibutor...my car runs much better now....starts up very quick and never ever dies...
In cold weather it used to not start at all sometimes cauz of the faulty sensor....
Wtf were they thinking designing this thing...it coulda cost me way less if the sensor wasnt embedded in the damn thing!

i got my entire dizzy disassembled with hand tools. it was a BEEOTCH though. i got all the parts except ignitor and coil left over; coil was bad, ignitor is sold.

and besides, you're crazy for going to the stealership. talk to flying_pat i think is his user name. or search for "distributor king." like $160 for a NEW dizzy w/ 3-year warranty. stealership is 3-4 times the price and no warranty.

If you wanna know for sure if your distributor bearing is shot i suggest you turn on your car and let it idle and get any piece of hose and put one end on the dizzy and the other end up to your ear and you should be able to hear pieces of the bearing actually rattling around in there. IF this is the case i would suggest an immediate fix because the bearing and shaft will seize and your timing belt will either jump or snap.

How tough would it be to swap CYP sensors?

taking apart the distributor is a Royal PITA w/ capital R, but vice grips would help A LOT. i've got a for sale thread where i'm selling that sensor for $2, and many other dizzy parts each for $2. check my sig.

i just checked, and i think the CYP is the one nearest to the distributor's cap, so you're in luck. the other 2 are a super pain to remove.
