Distributor Ignition Coil Resistance Readings...
I've been looking around trying to find out why my distributor has been noisy. While I had it removed from the engine I decided to test the ignition coil resistance readings and compare them to the shop manual specs. Everything in the distributor looks shiny and clean, I don't know how old it all is but it looks to be in great shape. The car runs great, it is just noisy. The primary resistance reading I get on my coil is 1.2 ohms, spec is .6 - .8 ohms, so it is out of range. On the secondary my reading is about 17 k ohms, spec is 12-19 k ohms, so it is within spec on the secondary side. Do you guys think the coil should be replaced if it is out of spec on the primary side only ?
I'm doing the distributor cap and rotor while I have it apart, I didn't expect the coil to be out of spec though. The distributor doesn't look like it is 19 years old, so it may have been replaced in the past, I just don't know how long ago. This is a 2000 GS-R , with 190k kilometres (120k miles approx.)
Thanks for any replies on this.
