Disconnecting shift linkage
I was trying to figure out how to disconnect the shift linkage from the tranny of my 1995 ls, but I couldn't manage to figure it out.
There is a single shaft going directly into the tranny that is covered by a boot. The shaft has a hole through it, but no other markings. Any help is much appreciated! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
take center console out. unbolt the 2 bottom bolts where shifter is. then take some sort of screw driver big enough and hammer the pin out thats connected to the tranny. and don't be a pussy you have to hammer it real hard.

Step 8:
To remove the shifter linkage, pull off the snap ring that covers the lock pin with a pair of pliers or a screwdriver, then with the correctly sized punch, hammer out the lock pin from underneath. Don't lose it! http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/b...s/dsc00030.jpg http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/b...s/dsc00031.jpg http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/b...s/dsc00032.jpg Taken from http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...p.php https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
Re: (Blueblotch)
If you have a spare A/C compressor bolt, they work GREAT to hammer out the pin. the long ass 12mm headed bolts with a small taper. Long so you wont hurt your hand (thats what she said?). That's if you dont have a punch.

You don't have to take out your center console...that's so much extra work...

Re: (My_EFsedan)
I still havent gotten mine out yet, I am at a loss. I couldnt fine a 8mm punch at the auto store so I tried a smaller one. Guess i am going to hunt down the exact one.
Anyone have useful tips on this? |
Re: Disconnecting shift linkage (anahaevia8)
the part you are having trouble with is obviously the pin holding the linkage to the tranny shaft...take one of your A/C bracket bolts out and hammer the pin out from the bottom of the car. I only had to hit it about 3 times and it slipped right out...good luck...
