Did honda change their oil filter size?

I happened to be at a Honda dealer today so I bought some oil filter for the teg... Now I did this because I know that the tegs, CL's, Accords, Odysseys use all the same filter.
But this one the diameter is smaller.. almost the size of a aluminium soda can.. Did they change their filters? The part number is 15400-PLM-A02

yes they did chnage the size which give it more oil pressure... its a blue oil filter right? if so then yes i have it on my teg right now.

I believe Honda has been using these filters ever since the rsx debuted, which is what, 3 years ago?

ive been using the new smaller ones for a while, maybe your dealer was just giving you the bigger ones cuz they gotta get rid of those first!?

Honda went to the smaller filters to be more cost efficient.....or so the American Honda rep told me. I was a Honda/acura tech. for a local dealership for 7 years. I personally prefer the bigger filters because they are a little less restrictive and better quality in my opinion. I have a 01 ls, but I just get the s2000 filter which uses the older fatter style like they used to use on all of the hondas. If you like the older ones better, just ask the parts department for a filter for an s2000 at your dealership. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Yup, those new oil filters are made in Canada, therefor they suck. s2k filters are still made in JDM land. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

where is the cheapest place online for genuine honda filter?

Re: Did honda change their oil filter size? (r4integra)

yes and they will fit i used to work at a dealer. it helps bump up oil pressure a lil (says honda of america) i guess it helps vtec engage better maybe??

If the new filters are smaller in diameter, how do they fit on the older B Series motor that used the fatter diameter filters? If it's smaller in diameter, how does it seal at the base of where the oil filter goes? I wonder if I'm making sense.

The new filter is smaller in the case, but the gasket is in the same diameter.

Re: (PandaBear)

I was looking on ebay, found 6 filters for $28.50 with free shipping in USA.
I would think that would be the cheapest place to purchase filters.
I looked on Slhonda.com and a s2000 filter is $6.90+shipping
I looked on acura automotive parts and a gs-r filter is $6.49+shipping
I looked up the s2000 filter price on Honda automotive parts and an s2000 filter is $6.49+shipping.
Can anyone beat these prices?

just use a big pair of channel locks. those work better than oil filter wrenches.

Re: (EBPSI)

I use a medium-sized, slip-joint oil filter wrench from Mac Tools at work to remove the filters. I've seen the same thing by OTC (pt#: 4562). See http://www.otctools.com or http://www.ntxtools.com

The only Honda I've had trouble sneaking the wrench up to the filter is on the older B20 CR-V's. It's harder to get a bite, but you can still grip the butt of the filter and incrementally inch it loose.

I don't know where the rumor got started about the smaller filters increasing oil pressure. Well, I suppose it's true....kinda. It depends on how you look at it. A smaller filter is a restriction. The pressure may be higher before the filter, but it's lower after the filter.
