CTR pistons or Spoon JDM ITR pistons?
i'm about to buy a set of pistons but i can't decide which one to go for. either the CTR pistons (12.5:1) or the Spoon JDM ITR pistons ( 11.1:1)
those numbers come from inlinefour.com and 2 other performance shops in town.
i was also told the US b18c5 has a compression of 11.5:1.
are all the numbers here correct?
i also know that honda factory pistons are balanced pretty good form factory. some people would even say it's perfectly balanced from factory. so what would Spoon balanced pistons have CTR pistons wouldn't? just need some help to pick a set of pistons i'm buying tomorrow. i'm leaning on CTR right now simply because of the higher compression.
THANKS

What head/block is this going into? Without knowing this we can't tell you what the CR will be...

JDM ITR pistons (p73-00) in a b18c1 block & b18c1 head, with stock headgasket will yield 11.36:1 CR.
CTR pistons(p30) in a b18c1 block and b18c1 head, with stock headgasket will yield 11.6:1 CR.
Stock USDM ITR motor: is 10.6:1 CR.
Spoon Balanced Pistons are great for reliability, but IMO nothing from Spoon is worth the money the charge you...

this is going into a b18c1. thanks for clerifying the numbers. i might just go with the spoon jdm itr pistons than. they say those are 11.1:1.
forgot to add that i plan to go with some nitrous after this and an lsd. just a small 50 shot. what pistons would you guys recommend for me?
my setup:
b18c1
I/H/E
Cam gears
FPR
CTR cams
flywheel
clutch

that's just it, spoon pistons cost 40 dollars more than the other set of pistons.

If you are ganna spray I would suggest fordged pistons... Not stock honda one's... The choice is up to you though...

hmm, does compression effect nitrous quite a bit? what compression would you recommend?
je makes pistons with 9.8:1 nitrous ready.

CTR pistons are PCT, not P30, and in an otherwise stock B18C1 will yield a CR of over 12:1.

You can spray on any level of compression, you just have to maintain a decent A/F ratio to spray.......Search around a bit, this was covered on the all-motor forum a couple of weeks ago............

Re: CTR pistons or Spoon JDM ITR pistons? (eg_type_r93)
well i did alot of searching and reading and a few problems came up.
1) CTR pistons and JDM ITR pistons are not forged and are unreliable with N20.
2)CTR pistons would bump my compression higher than the pump gas in my new home in Albuquerque NM can support. (91 in some places and mostly 89 everywhere else)
3)JE pistons make forged 9.8:1 compression pistons but are 300 more than the other pistons.
conclusion: i don't even know what to do anymore!!!!!!!!
someone plz shed some light on my stupid aZz

Re: CTR pistons or Spoon JDM ITR pistons? (PowerHouse)
You just need to shop around a little bit, start with the performance board here on Honda Tech, I found several excellent deals there on some of the stuff I've bought.......Put it this way, I just bought a set of Wisecos (high comp) for my B17 and though retail is around $550, I got them for $450 shipped...Moral of the story, look a LITTLE, save ALOT........PM me if you need some links, there's also a shitload all over HT......
ALSO...You don't want to drop your compression lower than stock, you just want to not bump it as high as a CTR piston will yeild, most forged piston come in a BUNCH of different compression ratios, you should be able to get up to at least 11.0-1 with 91 octane and a little tuning......
