Crankshaft woodruff key question!
I'm in the middle of rebuilding my lsvtec swap, and I'm putting the crank pulley back on.. My question is this, where should I install the woodruff key? Is there supposed to be two? One for the timing belt pulley and one for the crank pulley? I slid it in between the crank shaft and crank pulley and pushed it back as far as it could go.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Oil pump gear? Do you mean timing gear? I definitely don't remember having two come out when I took this thing apart though.. must have just dropped it only looking for one at the time. Thanks, i'll just head to acura or honda and pick one up.

Re: Crankshaft woodruff key question!
There are two keys: one for the timing-belt pulley and one for the accessory-drive pulley. One goes inside the belt pulley, one goes inside the accessory pulley. They wind up sitting end-to-end, like railroad cars.
You'll notice there is a groove in the pulley and the crankshaft. You match the two, and the key goes in the gap that results. Each key ends up flush with its pulley.
The keys are all that keep the pulleys from attempting to rotate on the crankshaft. If you're missing the belt-pulley key, you're going to wreck your engine when you try and start it. If you're missing the accessory key, the accessory-drive won't work. Both are disastrous, the first one much more so.

Thanks a lot. I'll get over to the dealer when I find some time I suppose. I work at a dealership that has longer hours than any other dealer I can think of lol (6am-11pm) so I'll have to make time one day. Maybe on lunch

Yeah I dont remember putting 2 on my motor.
The timing sprocket has its own key built in that slides onto the crank. The key for the accessory pullet is seperate

Well let's get this straightened out then.
b18b1
Order (block to crankpulley)
Timing gear with slot for woodruff
Divider plate? (circle with holes/slots in it)
Crank pulley with slot for woodruff
I do not see any sort of built in key on the timing gear.

Re: Crankshaft woodruff key question!
There isn't one. The factory manual erroneously shows one in some diagrams.
There is a sort of dished washer on either side of the timing-belt pulley. The concave sides face AWAY from the pulley. The effect is to create a sort of funnel for the timing belt, aiming it towards the middle of the pulley.
Ordinarily you would not remove the belt pulley unless you were replacing the oil-seal that's in the oil-pump.

Re: Crankshaft woodruff key question!
Alright this is bothering me now, so many different posts about this same situation but none of them seem to have a definitive answer.
https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-integra-6/need-help-please-woodruff-key-crankshaft-key-way-408623/
Another post same issue. A diagram of the installation procedures to install these parts would be amazing. From what I've gathered:
[BLOCK]timing gear pulley(key)/washer/(key)crank pulley-bolt
But then there's people saying it's only ONE key needed. There is without a doubt a notch in both crank pulley and timing gear.

The one on the left requires TWO woodruff keys. (OBD2 CFK Sensor)
The one on the right has a wood ruff key built into the sprocket (OBD1 NO CFK Sensor)
Which one do you have?
