Cost of replacing syncro in GSR tranny?
Anyone know about how much it costs to replace the 3rd gear synchro on the GSR tranny (believe it is the Y80)? Think mine is starting to go...
Whenever I shift from 2nd to 3rd at high rpm (>5ktpm), it grinds. First I thought I was getting lazy with the clutch, but not it. If I take it out of 2nd, let it sit in neutral for half a second, then go into 3rd, it is fine. Also, if I downshifting from like 5th to 3rd, it grinds. Even if I let the clutch out, it won't go in unless I revmatch... even when I'm only going ~50mph. I had bit 3rd gear kinda hard last time I went to Thunderhill, think its been wearing out.

mines is the same I was quoted 600 cdn thats probably 300+ US? for full rebuild including syncro
I think you're better off buying a new tranny ITR tranny

Where was this? I just called the dealer and they said ~$700 US at least. I want to sell the car, but if it is going to cost that much, I probably wouldn't sell it. If its only like $300-400, then that isn't too bad.

local mechanic's are like 300-350 to repair synchros...its a toss up though because for 650 you could get a si tranny with low miles....sell your tranny for 500, and for $150 you get shorter gears (a la itr) without the lsd...

my car does the same damn thing....i've heard it's around 700 too....i might take others advice and go w/ the ITR...

just buy the parts/synchros and then email me.... I have a friend that rebuilds transmissions in his sleep and he only charges $100 labor

I don't know all the parts that might be needed... I'll try and find out, but that sounds pretty good. Might have to wait a while... if I do that, might wait til I buy my beater so I'm not stuck with no car.

my GSR does the same thing.
Been doing it about 6 month.
I tried getting it fixed when I had to 60k done on it, but the dumbass's didn't find anything wrong with the tranny.
I'll take it somewhere else next summer and get it fixed under my extended warranty I hope.
I'd just let it keep grinding until u can afford a ITR LSD tranny!

when my gsr tranny went bad i bought a cable ys1 b16 tranny for 300 and swap the gears in to the hydro casing
