Check engine light, blinking D4 light, and funny gearshifting (Automatic car)
I bought a 1995 Integra LS SE off of some guy a few months ago, and ever since it's been driving fine. I was told it has a shift kit in it.
So, lately the check engine light has been coming on, but only about half the time, so whenever I bring it to a mechanic, it is, of course, not on, so therefore they can't check it.
Last night while I was driving home, the D4 light on the dash just started flashing the green outline around it and wouldnt stop for the entire drive home until I put it in Park.
Now, someone told me that integras can't have shift kits, and that may be the whole issue. The car doesn't downshift going up hills, either.
Anyone know what could be wrong, and if this person was correct?

I checked all the fluids, and they're fine. I just got the valve cover gasket fixed, and I don't know what you mean by vacuum, although I'm pretty sure I had that fixed at Aamco around when I first bought it.
The mechanics keep saying I'm crazy if I think somethings wrong with it, I guess the underneath looks immaculate. Very strange...
Also, the exhaust seems to be riced, it's insanely loud while accelerating, but it quiets right down once it's at speed. I'm not sure if that was done on purpose or if that's an issue, either.

if D light is coming on then your tranny is messing up. i have an auto but now it's converted to manual so yeah prettty much your tranny is going out on you. never down shift fron D4 to 3,2. but to help you i got my ls auto tranny laying around if you want it. 103k miles.

Hm, well transmedic says that the car sounds perfect and rides great, but they couldn't seem to get any light on, so they said if I ever do get it on, bring it straight there and see if someone can look at it.
I have yet to have gotten the light again myself, but I've only driven it 2 or 3 times since.

your shifting solenoids are locking up, or torque converter is going out. or they are out already trust me, you will still end up rebuilding your tranny soon might as well get it done with,

When the d4 light blinks, the ecu detects a trans fault. You can manually pull the codes by jumping the service connector and turning on the key and counting flashes of the d4 light. A quality shop who knows what there doing should have known this. The special tool is just a jumper wire. Finding the code will narrow it down. A steady flash would be a single digit number, a long flash followed by shorter flashes would be a two digit number. Your choices are 1-15.

it isnt possible that there's just a shift kit in it and the check engine is just a computer issue?

Oh yeah, and if I do need a new transmission, about how much would it cost including installation? May not even be worth buying...

I have a similar problem but my D4 light doesnt come on at all, does that mean anything besides a burned out light?
