Bad shop story
So I had my brakes done on my 'teg a few months ago, cause I didn't feel like doing it, this one shop was pretty cheap and did it for a little over $300. Anyways when I went out to rotate my tires about a month later I realised one of the lug nuts was cross threaded. I broke off the lug nut leaving half a wheel stud behind, and I took it back to the shop all pissed. They fixed it for free, which was cool.
The next day I was driving and I noticed a clunk when I put the clutch in, I thought it might be a strut or something cause it sounded like my friends car with a bad strut. then the car started making the noise every time I let off the gas, and eventually let out a rhythmic clunka-clunka-clunka-clunk when decelerating.
At this point I'm thinking those idiots fucked up the axel when they took off the hub to fix the stud, so I'm getting really pissed. The next day I go out to see if I can see anything loose and ya know what? I'm driving on two lug nuts!
I guess they didn't want to strip my studs again so they put the nuts on really loose. Idiots. I'm never letting anyone touch my car again.

DIY is your friend. I don't trust anyone at shops, the only place I would trust is the dealership but you get raped on costs for just about everything.

Sometimes you have to take your car to a shop...i had a fender painted and put on at a shop when my rims were jacked. The shop did a good job, but they stole a bunch of **** out of my car. It's like...i just had my rims stolen, so they figured they might as well add to my losses...

Re: Bad shop story (99GSR1980)
Yah well anyways to make a long story short I bought a torque wrench and torqued my new lug nuts. A look on the bright side I didn't need a new axle. I'll just save that money for the B20 swap

yeah, at least you know not to go back to that garage now.
Finding a good mechanic in a reputable garage is difficult. But once you do have a reliable one, its worth paying to get the job done. I'm not referring to these well known performance shops who charge a premium. Giving the right mechanic the work is just as important as the shop he is affliated with. Paying load of cash doesnt necessarily guarantee the results you are expected either.
I used to refer lots of guys to my mechanic. But in the end it frustrated me as they all wanted "a deal". I dont nickel and dime my mechanic and i felt bad that he had to put up with it. Basically stopped bringing in bad business and do not do referals anymore unless it is a good friend who is in need.
But do yourself a favor and find someone you trust to take care of your car. It will pay off in spades.

After ACURA, broke my tranny bolt, headlight, and forgot a valve cover nut!!!! Oil sprayed everywhere!. I was a noob then, know what the lady said ? Drive it back here, and we will fix it... 20 freakin miles! Stupid me. After that....I bought a helms, and have never looked back.

thats the complete opposite of the guy i know. he did my engine swap out and in for $450, told me to check all the fluids and call him if anything was wrong, let me pick up my old engine about a week later free of charge, and i swear he did a better job of installing that engine then honda themself. hes a real vw and honda tech fanatic; i honestly dont think theres anything he does know about a civic.

ah.. sorry for generalizing all of a sudden I should have mentioned that some shops out there are just there to make the quick cash. Don't get me wrong there are some reputable shops out there!
I like to work on my car because its a hobby for me.. and when you do you own work you have that peace of mind.. unless you like to drink while you work
anyways, to me taking your car to a shop is like eating at a fast food restaurant. You never know whats been done.
