Default bad idle

symptoms are:

cold start it idles at 3k

drops to 2k when warm

sometimes has a fast idle between 900 and 2500. it will cycle through this a couple jumps and settle out somewhere around 2300


i take off the tps and nothing happens except the CEL comes on. i take off the IACV CEL comes on and idles stays jumping

any thoughts?

i have the same problem i mean exactly the same problem as in the idle would be the same from 3k cold and warm bout 1.5k

well i fixed the idle today. i first replaced the iacv with a spare i had .. that didnt fix it.. so then i went on to replace the tb with an extra i had also with a new tps. problem solved. idles back down at about 800. BUT now im smoking.

when i got the car it had an oil leak around the vtec solenoid but no smoke. could it be that something got worse inside or its smoking cuz of the tb having sit for a while (which ive never heard of happening)

any suggestions. if i had bent a valve how could i tell

when does it smoke?

what color is the smoke?

Clean your map sensor and iacv.

smoke is black but not thick like dirty black... the car runs thru gas so i hope im running rich. i did a compression check today and i got 210 210 210 215 and my spark plugs were black az fawwwk. all carbon'd up

as far as when it smokes all the time.. its light but consistent. comes heavy when im in vtec

im gona try going back to the old iacv tomorrow cuz i think the tps was the source of the bad idle.

do what i did. freshen up the throttle body or replace entirely with new tps and new gasket go from there.. you got too much air coming in.. if the iacv was your problem the idle would jump all the time.. if its steady look towards your tb for the source

edit*... assuming that all your vaccum lines are skr8 and u got nothing serious wrong like a blown hg


another edit lol* or your could have jumped a tooth . check timing make sure its all peaches and gravy
