B18B1 Idle Issues (Please Read)
ATTN: MECHANICS AND DIYERS
1997 B18B1 (non vtec)(no fitv) auto
Got the car a few days ago, had surging idle, got air out of coolant, so I took apart the TB and cleaned everywhere that was dirty, cleaned IACV, while I was in the process, checked for vacuum leaks using carb cleaner.
Before I did anything, idle was surging from 1600-2200, now, it just maintains a high idle around 1300ish BUT I can't rev the car over 2600 Rpm, acts like a redline. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Try unplugging the battery for 5 min then putting it back on to reset the ECU, your in limp mode on the ECU.

The code should tell you if it's the electronic idle control, which is easy to replace. However it could be the distributor. I'm honestly not familiar with engines after gen 2. My 92 has both a iacv, which is only replaceable on models after 94, not serviceable. (Mine is) and, on the back of the intake manifold I have an electronic idle control. Easy enough to pull off a junkjunk car.
