I have access to most of the tools. I dond have a cylinder hone. I think that is the only special tool you need isn't it? Can i even change the piston rings with the motr still in the car?

I did it with the engine still in the car. I rented the piston ring compressor and honing tool from Autozone. You will also want to buy a piston ring expander to get the old rings off and the new rings on.

Okay i know how to take the head off but what do i have to take apart at the bootom of the engine? oil pan and what else? Thanks a lot for your help.

You have to drop the oil pan, remove the oil baffle and pickup, unbolt the rods and then push the pistons up through the block. I would seriously recommend a Helms manual if you don't have one to ensure the honing is done correctly, the rings are aligned correctly, and the torque on all the critical bolts are correct.

I have a Haynes manuel that cover show to tear down and rebuild the entire motor. It covers everything i need to do the piston rings. Thanks a lot for your help. I s there anything else i should know before starting the tear down?
