Any one make 3" cold air intake for 94-97 GSR?
Looking for a 3" GSR cold air intake (AEM type preferred.) My current AEM CAI is only 2.5"
Has anybody modified an ITR CAI to work on a GSR?
Is the intake tube for the Comptech Icebox 3" for the GSR?
THX

Why do you need 3"? Is your throttle body opening 76mm? You can use the ITR AEM if you have the Skunk2 intake manifold.

Is a Type R throttle body 76mm? No, but AEM built it that way for a reason. Considering my car has ITR cams and a 9200 limiter (usually shift at 8800-8900) and an ITR transmission I feel the size of the GSR 2.5 inch AEM coupled with the length of pipe in order to make it a CAI might be somewhat restricted.
Simply put, considering the extra air flow demand the R cams place on the intake track I feel the diameter of the R intake is best suited for my needs.

Not sure if you are being serious or just sarcastic but if you cant answer the question in the post why post anything at all?
Back to the original question, does anyone know of an AEM style CAI that is 3" and fits a GSR intake manifold?

Nope don't know of one...
What you need to do is get the Skunk2 intake manifold, the ITR manifold that is retrofitted to fit the GSR and stick a AEM ITR CAI on, that is the only way i can think of that will allow you to have the 3" opening that you desire...
Sorry couldnt be much more help

Hell with AEM just get a washer or dryer Piping!! definitely more than 3 inches lol run that **** from the ground straight to your box... about 10 HP gain and if someone spots the tube hanging from the bottom of your car tell them its the new NASA intake system! haha it saves 220 dollars on a AEM and gives u the same sound and HP....Just buy a K&N filter 35 dollars you'll be alright!!!

Nope, 2.5 measured it last night while making a CAI/custom ice box for a friends SCGSR. You have to see the beast we made, puts the Comptech box to shame. Pics coming shortly.

I have a new K&N that I put on my AEM piping after pulling off the bottom, since that filter is filthy again. It is under the hood, since I had the bypass. The filter is a RU-0910 which is 2.75 in inner diameter end. Does the AEM taper at the end where it connects to the TB?

Re: Any one make 3" cold air intake for 94-97 GSR? (BSQ)
Very similar to your design BSQ however we realized that a 4" thin walled PVC tube oblong is basically the same area as the inlet in the bottom of the factory air box with the rubber removed. We used a rubber coupling to connect a 4" PVC pipe to factory air box, it is extremely clean with no disruption in air flow. From there we used a 4" 90 degree bend where it ends up in the same location as an AEM. We place a 4" air horn on the end.
Basically the configuration is this: bottom of air box, approx. 9" of 4" tube to a 90 degree into fender well with another 3" of 4" tube after 90 degree then the air horn. I must admit it looks very clean, almost professional and is a good 1" bigger in diameter than the Comptech unit.
We built this for a 12-second SC GSR, how it will work on a NA setup is unknown. We will be working on another one and will use my car as a test vehicle.
I spoke with AEM today and they agreed a GSR with R cams should be using a 3" intake. Unfortunately they don’t make one for the GSR manifold. They said if they have a big enough response (market) than it could be considered. I suggest all GSR owners with R cams or bigger and running the GSR intake should drop AEM an email. Ericks Racing ran some pretty impressive times (I think fastest all motor currently) using the underrated GSR intake manifold.
If anyone here (shop owners, dyno owners) are interested and might possibly be able to hook us up with some dyno time we would be more than happy to test out our 4” Cold Boxes. We are located in the San Fernando Valley but would be willing to travel the south if need be.
Thanks,
Chris

with those cams, it's time fora better IM anyway. Buy the Skunk2 and get an AEM ITR CAI. You'll be set. http://www.landspeedracing.com has a great price on AEM CAI's

Did you read the part about not wanting to sacrafice any more torque and the cost involved with purchasing the Skunk2 intake. I thought it would be a nice alternative.

Re: Any one make 3" cold air intake for 94-97 GSR? (CKDC2)
I used to have a GSR AEM cold air intake and had it dynoed. The dyno curve had two small dips. Then I changed the filter to comptech's ice box (with the stock arm) and the dips went away. I spoke to erick (Ericks racing) and he explained that an intake with a tapered tube ie, stock rubber arm, iceman made the most horsepower.

that has to do with air velocity in the intake tube. as it turns out for fairly stock cars the diameter is fine.
