Advice on where to get timing belt changed in Atlanta?
I just recently bought a 96 integra LS 5speed w/ 150k miles on it and I'm not sure that it has ever had a timing belt change on it. I know that if it hasn't its long overdue and even if it has it will be coming time for one again before too long so I'm calling dealerships around Atlanta and it looks like the cheapest I can find for a timing belt and water pump change is 595.00+ tax. I dont suppose anyone has any ideas on a place that could do it cheaper while still doing a top notch job of it that I could trust. I would do it myself but I dont have a ton of tools and I've only been driving the car a week so I have absolutely no experience working on this thing. I did a lot of work on my last car (a neon) but most of the repairs I did myself ended with me breaking something else or putting it back together wrong in the process
Anyway, sorry if this is in the wrong forum or a stupid newb question, I just dont have a lot of cash left after buying it and the last thing I need is to have to replace an engine. Thanks in advance.

Re: (2chron4u)
140$ for a timing belt replacement!? I called 8~ dealers and they ranged from 595-700~....
(havent gotten a chance to the one mentioned by 94gsr yet, still at work).
As for the water pump when I did a search here it seems like everyone said to do the water pump at the same time as the belt and I figure with 150k miles it couldnt hurt either way.

$600 does seem a bit steep. Not outrageous though. I just did TB/tensioner/pump on my B16 and parts alone were $300.
Look into a private shop such as '94gsR suggested. You'll get quite a pricebreak on labor. Dealerships rape you.
And definately go ahead with the new water pump. The reason it is always replaced when doing a timing belt it that it is located behind the belt. If you opted not to replace it now and it goes bad soon, you'll have to pay the labor costs all over again.
for doing things right the first time!

you want to replace the water pump now because if you dont and it goes bad you have to pay labor charges as if your getting your belt re-done. its only like a $40 part but if changed in conjunction w/the timing belt it will cost no labor...saving about $300..the good thing about a 'private shop', especially if you establish a relationship with them, they will usually hook you up with the parts at cost or a hair above and charge, at most, regular labor time. but with the money saved on parts alone it saves a lot of money.
