95 GSR Brake Upgrade

95 GSR Brake Upgrade
Wanting to do a brake upgrade have read several articles but wondered if anyone could offer some input on my parts and if this will work.
Essentially i want to put this on my Gsr.
94 NSX calipers
11 or 12 in diameter rotors (preferably without having to use a spacer or other offset hardware)
Ive read mini cooper rotors or prelude can be used. I read MG VR rotors fit with no modification but what parts store would sell MG rotors??
What year prelude and will they fit hub without any additional modifocation?
A bracket is needed i know but which one? An Acura RL?
So in summary im trying to put NSX calipers and at least 11 in rotors on my GSR (15in mesh wheels).
Thanks!

Re: 95 GSR Brake Upgrade
You can get a nice Wilwood front big brake kit for relatively low dough, I did the 6 piston but the 4 piston kit is quite good as well, fitment is so easy as everything is all engineered for you. I coupled it with the ITR rear brakes ( new rotors and reman. calipers) , it provides a nice brake upgrade for the GS-R.

With the mini cooper rotors, you shouldnt have to mill the bracket like you do with the redrilled prelude rotors. I am almost certain you can use a 23t or 25t bracket. And you may or may not need a spacer with meshes. I didn't and it just barely clears.
The MG rotors aren't available in the US, unless you pay someone to import them.

The 07-11 Mini Cooper base rotors fit with zero modification, you will have to re-drill the prelude rotors to 4x100 (if you're 4x100.)
If I remember correctly, you would use the legend or ITR caliper brackets.
Here's a good thread that should help too.

Re: 95 GSR Brake Upgrade
Thanks for the replies. Sounds to me like going with 280mm (11 in rotor) would be easiest so no need mess with wheel spacers.
I was wanting to use NSX caliper since its 2 piston. However if I do this I will need another bracket correct? But a bracket off what year/model car ?
Also if I go with NSX calipers is my bleeder screw going to be upside down?
Zeroptzero regarding your Wilwood big brake idea I am planning on staying with 15 in mesh wheels so wouldn't this big brake kit not allow the clearance needed?
What is the biggest rotor can fit on 15 in wheel along with the NSX caliper combo. Ive seen other Mini rotors that were 294 mm and so on.

Re: 95 GSR Brake Upgrade
nsx calipers should be the correct orientation and you should be able to use the 23t bracket if you plan on using mini cooper rotors. I believe NSXs used the 28t which used a thicker rotor. The 23t is what the ITR used, and is similar in thickness to the mini cooper rotor which is why it works. I have heard of people using the 25t bracket with the itr/v6 calipers and mini cooper rotors, but I've never tried it.
I have both b/c I got the 23t brackets from a friend and my junkyard set came with the 25t brackets.

Thanks aw614. So the 23T bracket is the closest fit to mini rotor however it is not quite wide enough hence the need to grind it to fit the thicker mini rotor ?
Ive seen people mention fast brakes sells machined 23T brackets and something about rock auto you know if those establishments work good?
If using NSX calipers TSX pads best to be used without overlap?

Re: 95 GSR Brake Upgrade
i haven't seen people use the 294mm mini rotor and I've stuck with the 280mm. Most if not all the mini cooper rotors are around 22mm thick.
I am unsure about the pad overlap...I took a look at my TSX pads that I am using with the itr calipers and I have pad overrun wear on the inside of the pad and the outside, but not as much as before. It's really odd.

Re: 95 GSR Brake Upgrade
I will probably go with a 280 mm rotor just to be safe.
Uneven wear doesnt sound good.
I thought read somehwere that someone used TSX pads with NSX calipers with on overlap. Not sure about using which pads with ITR caliper though.
No one has any issues using NSX caliper 280 mm rotors as far as having stock brake line length reaching ?

Re: 95 GSR Brake Upgrade
Talked to guy that runs Fast brakes.com today. You all may or may not know these points so if not hopefully it helps.
He says that a ITR bracket can be used with an 11 in Mini rotor no milling no needed.
Also CRV front caliper bracket is the same as ITR front caliper bracket.
Legend 93-95 GS calipers are very similar to NSX calipers and use the same ITR (or CRV) bracket.
ALso AW614 the reason you are getting uneven pad wear is because you are using a single piston caliper in conjunction with your bigger rotors ( according to the Fastbrakes guy).
Also Fast brakes guy seemed very knowledgeable I would definately consider checking them out though have not purchased anythig from them before.

Re: 95 GSR Brake Upgrade
Got brake upgrade and its good but not sure all air is out of lines. Pedal seems super high now and do not feel braking until pedal is almost to floor.
The setup worked good though, used Mini cooper 280 mm rotors, ITR bracket (some fabrication to remove material otherise wheels wouldnt turn), Legend GS calipers, and TSX brake pads. Quite big difference in brake effect.
