I think the main problem is that 9005 bulbs are not designed for continuos use as 9006's are. As a result, they tend to burn out quicker compared to 9006's.

so people would think your highbeams are on if u did a 9005 conversion, huh? that would be annoying, but they'd be better than OEM anyways, still contemplating whether i should go with it......we'll see, depending on everyone's advice

you get a much better light output that your reg stock headlights...the idea is to switch the highbeam headlights to your low beam housing and wire it up...

its not annoying because the light beams are not pointed upward like the high beam projectors are. you are basically getting a bulb which puts out more lumens of light than your stock 9006 bulb.

Re: 9005 conversion, how come so many people are having bad experiences with them? (Loccster)
my first 9005 silverstar burned out AFTER 11 MONTHS, replaced it with a GE 9005 Walmart replacement. They look the ******* same to me and light output is still great!
9005 alone will make a BIG diff, makes no real difference who makes them. Looking back I'll never ever pay stupid $$$$$ for 9005 silver stars. 17.99/pair for GE 9005s at Walmart for me and I'm happy

9005 are not made to be run continuously that is why they tend to burn out quicker then their 9006 counterparts.
word of advice... save the money for HIDs.

Yes, save money for HIDs
I ran SilverStar 9005 in both my highs and lows for maybe 6 months before I got my HID setup, all I can say is that they were far superior to my stock setup
and what is the "wire them up" deal
if you do it right, you dont have to "wire" anything up, they plug into 9006 sockets

AGREED. Wiring what up???? All you have to do is modify the bulb base from a 9005 to a 9006 base so it will fit your 9006 housing, hence "9005 conversion."

Actually, what I did was I bought some 9005 harnesses and replaced the 9006's with these. This way you don't have to modify the socket.

modifying each bulb is annoying, adding a 9005 socket is way easier.....and i think u can still use 9006 bulbs as well (i may be wrong).....correct me if i am

i think the fact that people modified the bases of their 9005 ss's made it that much more possible to touch the bulb-= that explains the short life of it....i think we need a poll how long did your 9005s last if you changed the socket and how long did they last if you modified the base??
