Honda is Back with Its Mean Mower to Claim A High-speed World Record
Carbon fiber cutting blades meets 200 HP at 13,000 RPM in Mean Mower V2.
You might have known that Honda has made lawnmowers for years now. You might even own one if you take mowing your lawn seriously. Something else Honda has made for decades are motorcycles, including a bad-ass supersport CBR1000RR Fiberblade SP. Thankfully for us, somebody in office for Honda wondered to themselves what would happen if we could combine them together? Does it become a 200 HP lawnowner or does it become a supersport motorcycle that can cut grass? Honda actually did this to set the record straight.
Thanks to the talent of stunt-and-racing driver Jess Hawkins, this beast of a lawnmower was put to the test by UK Honda in their latest video. The world record Honda was competing for in this situation was that of “fastest acceleration 0-100 MPH for a lawnmower (prototype)”. Honda previously had held the title with their first “Mean Mower” back in 2014, but they came back to set the record straight with Mean Mower V2, partnering with Team Dynamics, renown British racing team.
Part of the regulations regarding the world record at stake stated that the mower must “instrinsically look like a lawnmower” and still must be able to cut grass. Their mower of choice was to be the Honda HF 2622 with some major modifications, including dual electric motors to spin bespoke carbon fiber cutting blades. Yeah, it really has carbon fiber cutting blades.

Using a completely custom tube-frame chassis, Hoosier slicks, full titanium exhaust, 6-piston front 4-piston rear brakes, and just about every other custom part you can think of, the Mean Mower V2 is ready to party. Considering it has a better power to weight ratio than a Bugatti Chiron, it should be able to accelerate to 60 MPH faster than most super cars.
Laying down an average time of 6.29 seconds, the Mean Mower assuredly took the crown for fastest accelerating lawnmower 0 to 100 MPH by a long shot. After winning the world record, Honda continued to do some more independent testing, finding that the lawnmower was capable of a ridiculous 150.99 mph top speed. The thought of going 150 MPH in a car is frightening, that same speed in a mower almost threw us back in our seats. Congrats to Honda UK and Jess Hawkins, you definitely deserve all the internet clout possible today.
