Junker Civic Turbo Build Aims for 10s

But first, a little bit of tweaking was in order.

“I’m getting my tune pretty dialed in now and I actually lowered the boost to 14psi. At 16psi it was ripping my 235 R888s off in 3rd gear! I’m happy with 14psi at the moment. It still spins a little in 3rd and is a handful on the street.”

And then, it was off to test this Civic build out in some real world conditions.

“Made it out to the track today. It was ridiculously busy, the line to get in was almost a mile long. I had to sit in line for about an hour idling in 90 degree weather. Really put my cooling system to the test, never broke 190 ECT though.

First run was on 16psi and ran 11.7. My best run was on 20 psi when it went 11.0@128. All my runs were in the 11s, even the one I missed 3rd in. I seriously wanted to get a 10 second pass. I’ve been so close for so long. It’s bound to happen one of these days. Overall not bad for the first time out with the car.”

So it was back to the drawing board. The next step was waiting on E85, which promised to help the OP reach his long-time goal.

“Got this thing tuned on E85! Picked up a ton of power. Injectors are only at 80% duty cycle at 8,000 rpm and 20 psi. So 65 psi base pressure seems to be just right for this mild setup. Having serious traction issues now at only 15 psi in 3rd. Car feels like an animal, very happy with it at the moment.”

And that little change didn’t just help the OP hit his goal. It helped him annihilate it. Well, at least in roll racing.

“My local track hosted their very first roll race event. Unfortunately everyone only got 2 passes because it started raining, but it was still a good time. They had a really good turnout so they will be doing more in the near future. I actually had the fastest pass and highest trap speed of all the cars there. There were probably about 60 cars there including a Hellcat. Which I called out and he didn’t want to run me. This was kind of a mini roll race. We started at about 30 mph and only went 1/4 mile. My best pass was 9.8@133.8.”

Whether or not the OP can get his Civic to break into the 10s in a regular drag race, we’re still waiting to find out. But at this point, it seems inevitable. Be sure and head over here to stay tuned for when that day finally comes!
