This 8th Gen Civic Si Takes A Supercharged Approach To Running 10’s

By -

Slapping a turbo on a K-series is so common these days that it makes this supercharged Si really stand out.

We all know the K-series is a strong engine. It can take boost right out of the box. But while most tuners and shops go for a turbo setup, MercRacing has decided to go the supercharged route. Jose Mercado of MercRacing is responsible for all of the mods seen here on this Civic Si. The owner, who simply goes by “Tony” has a good handle on this car in the strip, but is aiming to take over the 1/4 mile record for fastest supercharged 8th gen Civic Si.

The setting for this record attempt is located at Rockingham Dragway. Located in Rockingham, North Carolina, Tony puts down a number of low 11 second passes at “The Rock” before one run where a 2-3 upshift is botched all together.

But this car is capable of more than an 11 second 1/4 mile time. A K20Z3 block is essentially stock, but has a Mercracing MR1900 supercharger. This blower is spinning on a 3.2 inch pulley and the engine spins to 9000 RPM. According to Tony’s Instagram, hybrid_life, the setup is capable of 501 horsepower and 342 lb/ft of torque when fed with e70 fuel. A built transmission helps power get to the drag slicks on 15 inch rims. But otherwise, this car is a street car. Peek clocely at the ending part of the video, and you’ll even see a child’s car seat in the back! Lucky kid, being able to ride in a record holder.

After hitting the 11 second mark a number of times, finally, Tony hits a 10. The time officially is a 10.893 at 130.14 miles per hour. And that right there is enough to make this the fastest and quickest FA5 with a supercharger. The rest of the run is impressive, too. The 60 foot time is just 1.713 seconds, and 330 comes in at 4.693. The half way is complete at 7.099 at 103.37 miles per hour, and the 1000 mark is hit at 9.153.

This 1/4 mile time is a bit off from other 1/4 mile times we have seen recently. For instance, this AWD Civic is in the low 7’s. But then again, that’s a full-on race car, and this FA5 is hauling the family. That in itself is seriously cool.
