Super Clean EK Hatch Build Inspired by the Original Civic Type R

By -

When you come across a garage-kept Civic hatch this clean it’d be a shame to leave it completely stock.

The EK hatch is one of our favorite Civics. It’s a blank canvas that lends itself to whatever kind of build you want. We came across this video by Automotive Anatomy about Chad Dobler’s 2000 Honda Civic hatch. The silver hatch is capital “C” clean.

Chad explains that he bought the Civic from the second owner, who’d had the car for 14 years. It’s a lot easier to start from “well kept” in our experience. Chad explains that his inspiration for the build is the EK Type R. That’s also why he’s sporting so many OEM parts and pieces. From the front and rear bumpers, to the wing, there are more than a few OEM Type R bits.

Inside the Civic he’s installed a set of Integra Type R seats that pair nicely with the Spoon steering wheel and Mugen instrument cluster. We can’t say it enough, but this Civic is clean. The little details are what keeps getting us too. Chad explains that the window cling is more than a mere cute vinyl, it’s a second-generation OEM item from Honda.

Yes, those are 16-inch Mugen MF8 wheels. The car is static (not everyone on IG has an air set up) and Chad explains, “I like it more functional than being slammed.” Under the hood, things get a little more exciting, since Chad’s taken ample advantage of the EK’s swap-friendly chassis. Instead of a stock B16, the B18 from a USDM Integra Type R looks right at home. “This is a real fun motor in this chassis. It made 190 to the wheels. It’s a lot of fun in a light car,” Chad explained.

What would you do differently with an EK hatch this clean?
