Rehab on Family Member’s Civic Si Is Heartwarming to the Max
When your dad used to autocross a Civic Si, but hasn’t driven it in almost 20 years, your rebuild means more than just working on a cool car.
Hondas naturally breed a close knit community. Even more so when Honda enthusiasm runs in the family. And this slick Honda Civic Si hatchback was recently built by a YouTuber for… his dad. Usually we see social media starts wishing to show off their own collection or their own ride, so it’s really great to see a video where the premise is an act of kindness.
The Cortez family has always liked cars, according to TheDrive. And a lot of that influence was because of the head of household. Cortez used to autocross this Civic Si in the early 2000s. However for various reasons, life got in the way, and the car had become a shelving unit in the corner of the family garage. We know how it goes. One small thing can sideline a car for a while. But for 18 years? Now that’s a much larger size project. Still, the whole family got involved. Younger Cortez lead the restoration, while other cousins helped in preparing the big surprise.
The restoration was fairly simple, all things considered. A new coat of paint was needed, but the mechanicals saw quite a lot of attention. Sitting for almost two decades isn’t good for any car. The Cortez youngsters decided to make things mechanically sound, rather than going for increased power. Just in case Dad wants to go to an autocross again, coilover suspension was added. Sticky tires, bigger brakes, and new interior with proper seats and harnesses were added, too.
The best part though is seeing the smile on Cortez’ face when sitting in the car. Here’s a Civic Si he hasn’t driven in nearly 20 years, looking new and improved, and ready to do exactly what had him love Hondas in the very first place. Stories like this always end up proving that the Honda community is one of the best car groups out there. We can attest that some of the best friends we have made have been through owning a Honda.
