Another Civic Type R debuts in race trim, this time for Pirelli World Challenge TCR class.

Wisconsin’s own RealTime Racing has been the latest to announce they will be taking the new Civic Type R to the races. Owing to the brand-new, and very competitive TCR class of the Pirelli World Challenge, RealTime, led by championship driver Peter Cunningham, sees great potential in the Type R in that class.

Cunningham states: “RealTime has a long history of success in production-based cars, so we are looking forward to joining what looks to be serious competition as the TCR cars go head-to-head in America for the first time this season.”

Cunningham’s time behind the wheel of various Honda products has led to a successful racing program with very close factory Honda support. American Honda, and Honda Performance Development are just a few of the backers.

Long-standing RealTime hot-shoe, Ryan Eversley, is the first officially confirmed driver of a lineup of two. Eversley pointed out that the newly created TCR class will have a significant learning curve, but is confident in the team’s ability to nail down the performance of a front-wheel-drive car. Their past production car racing accomplishments and championships have been with predominantly front-drive cars, including the Prelude Si, Integra Type R and TSX. “I don’t expect it to be easy, but I expect us to be in the fight for a championship,” Eversley says.

RealTime’s debut race for the car will be on March 23rd through 25th at Texas’ Circuit of the Americas.

RealTime is focusing on the TCR effort as it offers a foot in the door to a classification of racing offered by most world-wide sanctioning organizations. This doesn’t mean a complete switch from the NSX GT3 program, but the ability to buy-in a TCR seat is much more cost-advantageous than the GT3 program.

Want to go racing yourself with a Type R TCR? Worry not. RealTime is also planning on building a third TCR racer for future customers. Submit your order now.
