Amazing mid-engine Honda Civic hatch has captured the internet’s attention, and for a very good reason.

Each and every day, there are many thousands of cars for sale across the internet. Most of them are rather unspectacular in nature, while a small percentage warrant a closer look. Then, you have the few that capture the imagination of enthusiasts across the globe, invoking fits of desire and causing normally financially responsible folks to consider plunging themselves into debt to acquire them. This mid-engine Honda Civic hatch falls squarely into the latter category.

This wild, Renault R5-inspired build has been around for a while now, and was even the first subject in Forza‘s “Along for the Ride” series, which we’ve included below for your viewing pleasure. But now, the mid-engine Honda Civic has surfaced for sale over at Bring a Trailer, and the game has changed. Bidding on this masterful creation has proven fast and fierce thus far, and the folks in the Honda-Tech forums are currently fawning over it, too.

“This PSA was necessary as the best Civic hatchback ever is on BaT. Sell your Porsches and Vipers, this is just way better. The craftsmanship is just unreal,” said confusedJDMvwGTI.

That may sound silly to people who actually own Porsches and Vipers, but this car is just that good. First of all, its custom-fabricated rear subframe is holding a 3.2-liter Acura J32A2 V6 with a matching six-speed manual that were sourced from an Acura CL Type S. The engine sits in a carpeted and insulated compartment located behind the seats, and it all looks like it was supposed to be there in the first place.

The fuel tank was relocated to the original engine compartment, while the suspension consists of mostly Datsun 240Z components with coilovers at all four corners. These mechanical modifications obviously steal the show, but the exterior of this mid-engine Honda Civic is also worthy by comparison. The car has been given a widebody treatment with ’80s-tastic straked vents, and covered in metallic gray and silver two-tone paint.

Many parts, including the rocker moldings, were custom made. Other highlights include the ducted hood, front and rear spoilers, and those perfectly matching, period-correct Enkei “salad shooter” wheels, which are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero rubber, and cover four-wheel disc brakes sources from a C4 Corvette. The now-two-seater features twin sport seats and a roll bar inside.

Everything about this Civic was clearly crafted with love, and it’s really no surprise that the internet is currently fawning over it. Rides like this just don’t come along every day, and we’re betting that it ultimately sells for big money. But in all fairness, how often do you get the chance to buy a properly-done, finely crafted mid-engine Civic hatch?
