Matt Farah Takes the 2018 Acura NSX to the Canyons

How good is the NSX on a winding mountain road?

In this Smoking Tire One Take episode, Matt Farah takes a 2018 Acura NSX to some winding roads to see just how capable the Japanese supercar is. As Farah mentions in the beginning of the video, this wasn’t his first rodeo in the 2nd generation NSX. A few months ago, he had a go in one on the track at Virginia International Raceway while filming a segment for DRIVE on NBC Sports.

So while Farah already had a taste of what the new NSX could do on a race track, he was eager to see how the car would perform on public roads. Especially a nice Southern California back road with some windy bits.

If you didn’t already know, the NSX is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 hybrid engine. While there’s an electric motor out back with the engine, there are also two other electric motors powering the two front wheels separately. So if you think about it, there are four motors working together to make the NSX to do something really well: GO VERY FAST.

Unlike its competitors like the Ferrari 488 GTB and McLaren 570S/720S, the NSX puts down the power to all four wheels. The competition may have the upper hand in outright acceleration, but the way the NSX transfers the power to the ground is unlike anything Farah has ever experienced. With all the technology Acura have put into the car, it’s still very much a driver’s car that can be fun to drive. So for whoever says that the NSX is pretty much a video game, perhaps you should test drive one yourself.

What do you think of Matt Farah’s thoughts on the NSX’s capabilities on the street? Let us know on the forum!
