Kunimitsu Honda Posts Fastest Overall Time in SUPER GT Tests

Kunimitsu Honda was the fastest team in the Suzuka testing and Honda-powered teams even managed to post the top 3 times in the tests.

In the world of motorsport, Honda is currently facing many challenges. The Japanese car manufacturer announced that the end of the 2021 season will also mark the end of Honda’s Formula One career. Recently, one of the most prolific and legendary car liveries in motorsport history also announced the end of its partnership with Team Kunimitsu.

The partnership, which spanned over a quarter of a century, started in 1995 with the grueling 24 hours of Le Mans championship after Kunimitsu reached out to the automotive accessories brand Raybrig to sponsor the team’s Honda NSX GT 2. It looked like Honda was in a dire need of a win, and earlier last week, Team Kunimitsu offered the Japanese automaker some good news.

According to a report by automotive website Motorsport, Kunimitsu Honda culminated its private Super GT test week at Suzuka international racing course, and the team managed to clock in the fastest overall time. Team Kunimitsu Honda was the fastest team in the Suzuka testing and even the top three times in the test were posted by teams powered by Honda. This included Team Mugen Honda and Real Racing Honda NSX-GT, both of which were running NSX-GT models.

Kunimitsu Honda led the way by posting an overall time of 1’44.643 and was followed by Team Mugen Honda, which managed to cross the line in just 1’44.819. Real Racing Honda took third place with an overall time of 1’44.828. Naoki Yamamoto and Hideki Mutoh were responsible for piloting the NSX-GT to the top of the leader board. TOM’S Toyota GR Supra was the fastest non-Honda team in the tests and took the fourth position.

Kondo Racing Nissan GT-R managed to beat ARTA Honda NSX-GT and made its way in the overall top 5. This also meant that Honda-powered teams managed to post five of the top ten fastest times at Suzuka. Most of the teams will continue their pre-season prep at Fuji Speedway. There is also plenty of exciting action coming our way later this month as the second and final tests will be held on March 27 and 28.
