Ireland’s Picture-Perfect EG Hatch Leaves Us Drooling
Covered in immaculate details from the carbon roof down, this 319 HP, 9,600 RPM K20 monster is everything we could ever ask for.
We love finding those builds that only certain enthusiasts will be able to truly appreciate. Something that speaks volumes about its character in its subtlety, like a fine wine or a quality coffee.
When in a place where your passion is a rarity amongst the general populous, it’s easy to be convinced to create the most flashy build possible in order to garner acclaim. However, Lee Murphy, owner of this stunning EG6 Civic SiR, decided he wanted to do it his own way.
Murphy may have the finest EG in all of Ireland, where street-driven “golden era” Hondas is a sight not often seen. Thus, when you see a quality example like this one, you can’t help but appreciate it.
Without a doubt, this Civic is a gem in his niche Honda scene and a standout example anywhere else in the world for that matter. Thanks to a recent Speedhunters feature, we get to learn about the many details of this exceptional Honda.
Enthusiast owned for the last decade, one of the first K-swapped Civics in Ireland
Before this Civic was revamped and covered in its sinister gloss black finish, it was a purple-painted track car. However, over the years the car saw fewer and fewer track days and Murphy was ready to move on from the platform.
However, he managed to do something few tuners accomplish with a long-standing project: start over completely fresh and build the car ground-up once again.
In this act, Murphy was able to utilize all his experience with the platform to create the exact dream build he had always wanted. We can certainly say the execution of his vision shows the qualities of a true Honda aficionado.
See, the car’s black-on-black theme ensures a normie would never give the car even the slightest glace. However, as the fine details expose themselves, the discerning EG lover will quickly pay notice.
Not your typical “standout” build. However, the closer you get, the better it gets!
You know when you can just tell someone has put a serious amount of time into perfecting something? That is exactly how we see this Civic.
Details like the Chargespeed front fenders are so simple but add so much character. Generous amounts of carbon fiber cover almost every corner of the EG as well, from the front lip to the Spoon spoiler.
The subtle blue theme established by key exterior accents pieces continues in another beautifully crafted section of this EG: the engine bay. Gracing this tucked bay is K20 race-ready engine is built by Stafford Performance.
This high-strung K-series features a 13.5:1 compression ratio and 52mm ITBs that flow out of a custom 3-inch exhaust. This setup is good for 319 HP and 197 ft/lbs of torque, all N/A while revving to a 9,600 redline.
No aspect left untouched and no corners cut
As if couldn’t get any better, we dive into the paradise that is the interior. There you will be greeted by a Quaife sequential transmission with a “close-ratio rally gear set” with a flat-shift system by Geartronics.
Almost too good to be true? Wonder if you are dreaming while sitting in the color-matched Kevlar Bride Zeta IIIs? All while adjusting features on the Ecumaster digital display or ripping the hydraulic handbrake around a U-turn?
Yes, this build is that good. There is a carbon fiber passenger foot tray for crying out loud! All aspects have been carefully and precisely planned and executed to the highest possible degree.
So whether it is the color-matched Ceika Performance 6-piston BBK and the ASR rear brace or the custom button panel with color-matched blue lighting, every little thing makes us fall in love more.
We could literally gawk at photos of this EG for hours on end. As far as track-inspired street cars go, this one is definitely amongst the best out there.
Yes, it may not be the most revolutionary approach to a classic Civic, but sometimes it’s about how you do it, not just what you do. Cheers Murphy, you have a drool-worthy Civic we hope you cherish forever.
