Integra Type R Draws Heavily on Spoon Inspiration

By -

We’d normally hesitate to modify an untouched Integra Type R, but this is one way to do it right.

One of our favorite channels, Automotive Anatomy, covers some amazing builds. This time Yvette Moreno found this 2000 Integra Type R that’s been modified to look like the Spoon Integra Type R. The owner, Josh Socito, has had a few Hondas. Josh had an M3, but decided he wanted to get back into something a little cheaper to maintain. Though modifying a Type R to this level certainly couldn’t be called cheap, it’s likely less than keeping a BMW M3 running.

The most striking thing about the Integra is the livery, of course. The blue-and-yellow wrap is inspired by Spoon, of course, but has a few personal touches. That “96” on the hood and doors is there on account that it’s serial number 96. Under the hood, the numbers-matching engine is largely untouched internally. Not something you often find in Hondas, especially the Type Rs, but something worth holding onto. Josh laughed and explained that he’s kept all the OEM Type R interior bits too. “Not for sale,” he added.

“One of the first things I bought was the Spoon umbrella,” Josh said. Though joking, it’s nice to see someone go into a build with the end goal in sight. The car has the JDM front end and the European rear bumper. The fenders are a nice touch, made by CrowHouse, and they have a nice big air duct worked in. The fenders look nice and when Moreno gets a nice closeup, they’re better than many of the aftermarket fiberglass fenders we’ve seen,

Inside Josh has done a nice job hitting all the racecar inspired bits, but without totally ditching the niceties. “There’s AC, which is the best thing I like,” Josh added.
