Integra Type R Advertised as ‘Lowest Priced’ Is Thrashed

2000 Integra Type R Phoenix Yellow Hammered Thrased San Diego California

Sun-faded, battered, bruised, and K20 swapped Phoenix Yellow Integra Type R has a branded title and an insane asking price.

We run into some pretty wild listings in our never-ending hunt for Acuras and Hondas across all sales platforms. We’re certainly no strangers to seeing insane prices associated with the Acura Integra Type R. However, sky-high auction prices on pristine examples are causing some pretty outlandish asking prices across the board. However, it’s obvious these sky-high prices are only coming from collectibility. All-original cars in near-showroom condition with clean titles and low mileage are where big money is at. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of car owners are missing those key elements. We’re not trying to shame anyone. After all, you are free to ask whatever price you’d like for your car. However, you have to be prepared for any backlash you’re opening yourself up to. Sometimes, a much-needed reality check is in order. This is one of those times.

Listed on Offerup in sunny southern California is this appropriately sun-baked 2000 Acura Integra Type R. With an asking price of $35,000, the seller claims it is the lowest priced ITR in the US. Yes, it is Phoenix Yellow, which is highly desirable. But, unfortunately, that’s about the only good thing we have to say about it.

2000 Integra Type R Phoenix Yellow K20 Swap

More of a Lost Cause Than a Longed-after Collectors Item

Aside from the painfully obvious paint fade, mismatched bumper, and damage to the paint and bodywork, there are points to deduct under the hood. While we are certainly advocates for a good K-series swap, the K20 under the hood of this Integra Type R is not exactly a selling point for those with big bucks to spend on a collectible. The lack of an intake or even a filter certainly does not offer any relief. Nor does the questionable throttle cable arrangement. Unfortunately, even this is not the biggest issue with this car.

That award has to go to its rebuilt title. The seller states that the title got its branding because it was a theft recovery. Regardless, a rebuilt title is a huge ding to the price department.

Hagerty lists the average price of a 2000 model year Integra Type R at $35,400. That is, of course, assuming it’s in good condition and is free of issues like title branding and everything else we see here. A closer estimate from Hagerty may come from their “fair” condition price point, which is $16,800. Even then, we’d struggle to put this car in that category. Ultimately, if this seller has a legit offer anywhere near $15,000 for it, he should take the money and laugh all the way to the bank.

2000 Integra Type R Phoenix Yellow Sun Faded Abandoned California

Certainly Not The Lowest Priced, Either

It didn’t take us much time at all to find a Championship White JDM Integra Type R for sale in Washington State for $27,995 at a Japanese auto importer. If playing the JDM card isn’t fair to you, then we’ll point you in the direction of this left-hand-drive example that sold just a few weeks ago on Bring A Trailer for only $20,000. While that one had some damage and is a Canadian import, it’s still in much better shape than this one.

Finally, our smoking gun is this near-perfect 2001 Phoenix Yellow example sold in October 2021 for $33,250. It has nearly identical mileage to the one above. Ultimately, anyone with this kind of money to spend on an ITR is very obviously going to spend it elsewhere. With JDM examples practically flying off the shelves in the mid-20s over at Bring A Trailer, you’d have to be really unobservant not to!

Sadly, with this price tag, this car is only going to sit and rot more than it already has. We really hate to see it happen, but the asking price ultimately leaves no other solution.
