Honda Reveals Its 2021 Auto Shanghai Show Lineup

Honda has announced that it will soon introduce an all-new electric-only and plug-in hybrid model at the upcoming 19th International Automobile Industry Exhibition.

It is still unclear what the Japanese car manufacturer intends to do with its ‘TrailSport’ moniker, which Honda recently trademarked. Nevertheless, the car manufacturer is stirring up a lot of excitement in the industry. The company has announced that it will soon introduce an all-new electric-only and plug-in hybrid model at the upcoming 19th International Automobile Industry Exhibition (2021 Auto Shanghai show).

Industry rumors suggest that the upcoming hybrid model might be an updated version of Honda’s CR-V hybrid. China happens to be the world’s largest electric vehicle market, which is why the 2021 Auto Shanghai show marks the perfect occasion for such a showcase.

Back in December 2020, we reported that Honda will be ending its Formula One career, and the company has revealed that the decision was motivated by its Electrification strategy. Honda intends to focus its efforts on developing battery-powered models so that the automaker can be carbon neutral by 2050.

The Japanese car manufacturer also partnered with GMC, which will build an all-electric SUV for Honda. Safe to say, Honda’s electrification strategy is quickly taking shape. Honda is also making impressive progress with its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). In addition to its new electrified models, Honda will also showcase the company’s all-new third-generation Honda CONNECT driver assistance suite.

The company’s Legend sedan was recently awarded type designation for Level 3 autonomous driving by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and tourism. Honda recently also confirmed that every Honda Sensing Elite-equipped Legend model will be capable of returning to its original lane after overtaking a vehicle. With this feature, Honda’s upcoming offering will be able to compete with Tesla’s product range which currently dominates the electrified segment.

The 19th International Automobile Industry Exhibition will open its doors to the public on April 24th. The company’s new plug-in hybrid model will be showcased alongside a wide range of hybrid and EV offerings. In addition to hybrid versions of Honda Accord and Odyssey, the company will also showcase PHEV variants of its Chinese-sped Crider and Breeze models. Honda’s electric vehicle showcase will feature the company’s VE-1+ and VE-1 S+ SUVs.
