Your Honda Odyssey may have damaged wiring leading to its third-row accessory power outlet.

Honda announced two recalls for Odyssey minivan owners as well as Honda Passport and Honda Pilot owners. It seems some 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey minivans have an issue with the wiring insulation leading to the third-row accessory power outlet. Three fires were reported, but no one has been injured thus far. Also, if you own a 2020 Honda Passport or Honda Pilot, 10,050 of these vehicles were fitted with driver doorjamb certification stickers printed with bad ink that can rub off if you clean the sticker.

Honda Odyssey Recall

Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 241,000 model-year 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L, Touring and Elite minivans in the United States to inspect, reroute and wrap in insulating tape the wire harness leading to the third-row accessory power outlet. If the wire harness is found to be damaged, it will be replaced, for free.

The wire harness leading to the third-row accessory power outlet may have been damaged when the interior panel covering the harness was installed, pinching it between the panel and the metal vehicle body. If the wire harness was damaged, a short circuit can occur, heating the plastic harness cover and potentially leading to a fire. Honda is aware of three fires related to this issue with no reported injuries.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to owners will begin in mid-March 2020. Owners of these models can also determine if their specific vehicles are included in the recall by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.

Honda Passport and Honda Pilot Recall

American Honda will voluntarily recall 10,050 Honda Passport and Pilot vehicles from the 2020 model year in the United States to replace the certification label affixed to the driver’s doorjamb, free of charge. Incorrect ink was used to print the labels denoting weight ratings, tire size and other required certification information (49 CFR, Part 567). This ink can be removed if the labels are cleaned with certain common cleaners, potentially erasing the required information. If drivers are unable to refer to the required information, they may inadvertently overload their vehicles, which could increase the risk of a crash.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in mid-March 2020. Owners of these models can also determine if their vehicles are affected by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
