Honda owners share their views on non-automotive topics in the General Discussion and Debate section.

If you are looking for technical help with a Honda product, there is no resource better than Honda-Tech.com. However, one of the most popular and active sections on the site is packed with non-automotive discussions, with Honda and Acura owners and enthusiasts coming together to discuss popular topics that don’t relate to what they drive.

Some automotive websites call it Off Topic, but here on Honda-Tech, we call it the General Discussion and Debate Section. In that bustling section, you will find non-automotive discussions of all kinds. This section is always busy, but with so many people around the world stuck in their house due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this section might be more important than ever. Tracks are closed, events have been canceled and in most cases, we are unable to hang out with our friends in the automotive community. Fortunately, you can have many of those same discussions with your fellow Honda fans right here on the site.

Honda Fans’ Favorite Off Topic Discussions

You will notice that every thread on the first page in the General Discussion and Debate section is active. Most threads have hundreds, if not thousands of replies with hundreds of thousands of views. The threads atop the list are a mix of current topics and long-time threads. We will start by looking at some of these lengthier threads that have been active for years.

If you quickly scan the ‘replies’ column, there are several that are likely to jump out at you. The first is the Official How the Market Did Today Thread, which was started back in 2007. Since then, it has piled up more than 15,000 replies and over 470,000 views.

Honda Bicycle

As you get further down the first page, other long-running threads with more than 10,000 replies include the Official Road Bike Thread, the Official Photography Thread, and one of the most active threads on the entire site, the Anime Megathread, with nearly 49,000 replies and 1.875-million views. These threads are long, but they aren’t the longest in the General Discussion and Debate section. All of the images in this post came from the Official Photography Thread.

If you search by number of replies, you will find many threads with more than 50,000 replies. Most of them are random chat threads, with a Political Thread and a firearms thread mixed in here and there.  Once you get passed those locked threads, you will find more great discussions that have gone on for years, including one on mixed martial arts, one on military service and one where members discuss home improvement projects.

Popular Topics

The Honda-Tech General Discussion and Debate section is packed with modern, trending topics as well. As you might imagine, Covid-19 is discussed quite a bit, including one thread that is purely reserved for information on the pandemic. There is another thread that was created for general discussion about the illness as to not clutter-up the information thread.

Golf Course

Along similar lines, there are threads with Honda and Acura fans discussing what they made for dinner, what people expect of the upcoming NFL season, an Official PS4 thread and much, much more.

If anything mentioned here piques your interest, head on into the thread to participate in the discussion. Even if you don’t see your specific non-automotive interest mentioned here, there probably is one further back. If you can’t find a thread on a particular topic, you can just start one yourself.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
