Honda K24-Swapped 240SX Makes One Heck of a Track Toy

By -

We love seeing the Honda K engines being swapped into these unconventional platforms.

In the world of drifting, the Nissan 240SX has become a bit of a legend. Mainly because it fits the rear-wheel drive, lightweight, front-engine formula. This is particularly true of the S14 platform, a car that features a wider track (albeit a little more weight) than its S13 predecessor. Originally equipped with a 2.4-liter inline-four in the United States, the 2nd gen 240 is a popular swap candidate today. But this Honda K24-powered 240 is certainly one of a kind.

This unholy mashup is the brainchild of the guys over at Speed Academy, who recently got to break in  this Honda powered Nissan at the track. And it’s equipped with all sorts of goodies, other than the obvious one under the hood. Wheels are 18×9.5″ Rays 57CRs, which are wrapped in excellent Toyo R888R tires. Evo-sourced Brembo brakes reside up front to slow things down in a hurry.

With the intriguing build finished, the only thing left to find out is how it performs on the track. And judging by the host’s initial comments, we’re guessing, um, pretty good? “Oh yes, yes, yes,” he says. “It’s so good. Guys, it feels really good. Doesn’t have the torque of an SR. But if I get on it, it feels awesome.”

There are a couple of things to sort out, of course. Our driver gets some vibrations on hard left hand turns, which he thinks is the motor hitting the chassis. And there’s a bit of oil starvation on certain hard turns as well.

But overall, the car performs awesome. “I have to say, the K motor in this chassis works exceptionally well,” our host notes. “No, it is not crazy fast. But compared to an SR, I think it would give it a run for its money.” Thus, perhaps we’ll start seeing more Honda powered 240s moving forward?
