A multi-day test reveals the full BTCC race trim for the 2018 season.

There’s an exciting week ahead for Honda racers Matt Neal and Dan Cammish as they put Honda’s new Civic Type R through the paces in preparation for the 2018 BTCC racing season. Prepared by Halfords Yuasa Racing, the new BTCC car will present an all new platform to develop from, and essentially start from scratch.

Testing is underway at the little-known Barcelona race track called Parcmotor Castelloli. Said track is where the world got to see the Type R race car for the first time. With the new FK8, development has been non-stop in the off-season to prepare for a successful first outing in late March.

Honda of UK’s Managing Director, David Hodgetts anticipates a motorsport season which will reflect the success and rave reviews of the road car. Hodgetts says: “The new Civic Type R has scooped a host of awards… and we’re hoping we can follow up those accolades with more success, on the track this time, in 2018.”

James Rodgers, of Halfords Yuasa Racing notes that the off-season development will be key into getting the most out of the Type R. “We’re sure it’ll prove a potent package when it hits the track in anger at Brands Hatch,” says Rodgers. Drivers Neal and Cammish also chimed in. Neal states: “I can’t wait to jump in and get out on track this week. If the car goes as fast as it looks then we’ll be in great shape this season!” Cammish, who is a new hot-shoe in BTCC also had this to say: “[the Type R] is really something special. Sitting in the cockpit for the first time will be a really proud moment for me.”

Brands Hatch will host the first BTCC round on the 27th of this month, so testing will be the main focus of Halfords Yuasa Racing’s schedule. We’ll be watching.
