The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the longest running endurance tests of man and machine, and a true Honda enthusiast, Billy Johnson, took part! Though he’s normally active in the NSX world, he wasn’t behind the wheel of a Honda for this race. He actually raced with the Chip Ganassi UK racing team, piloting the #66 Ford GT; a Le Mans legend in its own right. He battled in the LM GTE Pro class, which sees the highest level of factory-backed racing. The fight was immense, with Chevrolet’s wildly successful C7.R, Ferrari’s new 488 GTE, and Porsche’s legendary 911 RSR among the 14-strong field. That’s all while he shared track space with the full field of nearly 60 cars.

Attention at the end of the race was stolen by the devastating last lap failure of the Toyota prototype hybrid, but Billy took an impressive 4th-in class finish. Considering this was the Ford GT’s first visit to the famed LeSarthe circuit, that’s not bad at all. Other Ford GT team cars took 1st and 3rd, separated by a pesky Ferrari 488 GTE which took home second place.

Honda-Tech already has a forum post dedicated to the 2016 24 hours of Le Mans where you can also chat with other die-hard racing fans that will be keeping track of the exciting 2016 season.
