Hammer Drop! Honda S600 Sells For $42,000!
Honda’s S600 is steadily becoming the next classic car to shoot up in value.
Italian classics are known for fetching some big bucks at auction. After all, their histories are peppered with motorsport fame and glory, and all of the prestige associated with it. Honda can’t really enjoy those same aspects when it comes to their classics. However, they can enjoy the things that made their little sports cars, like the S600, so great in the first place: clever engineering.
With a nearly 10,000 RPM redline, Honda’s motorcycle connections are on full display here. The 600 in the Honda’s name stands for the displacement in cubic centimeters. That screaming 4 cylinder was good for 57 horsepower. Not a lot by any means, but it was an astonishing number for an engine of such small capacity. Math nerds will note that equates to 95 horsepower-per-liter, from a car built in 1965.
With 40,000 miles completed, this restored example is arguably one of the nicest that you’ll find around. Reflected by its $42,000 final selling price, we can see the S600 finally getting the attention of serious collectors.
Restorations like this one helped to earn every dollar from that sale price. Noted on the seller’s website, everything was restored using either NOS parts, or reproduction parts known to be correct. It’s about as close to a new S600 as you can get.
