Honda Drag Race Fail Gives Daily Dose Of Cringe
When you go to the races with “safety last” in mind.
Honda-Tech has always had the position of placing the highest amount of safety possible on motorsport events. Thankfully, a lot of sanctioning organizations agree, meaning in the event that you do have an unfortunate incident, the hopeful outcome is just some crunched up metal. But that’s clearly not what’s going on here, at all.
Besides the obvious folly of continuing to floor it when the hood flies up, there’s other areas to address too, which clearly were overlooked.

Lets start with the biggest issue, and the potentially most dangerous one: seat belts. Not only are they mounted to what seems like the floor, but since the harnesses had to pass under the harness bar – we can’t believe we had to type that – they would easily compress a vertebrae in an impact. Further on in the video when he’s trying to get a view out of the hood, you can see they aren’t even tightened. Good grief.
Less critical, but still important are the water bottles flying around during the car’s launch off the line. No. Just… no. It’s so easy for something like that to get jammed up in the pedals. Losing your ability to brake would make the next issue look like a walk in the park.
Finally we come to the hood itself. Slowing down would make sense after such an incident, but apparently, not being able to see where you’re going while pedaling on 4th gear is a-OK. We understand that sometimes things can get overlooked, and some cars will pull up to the grid with the driver less prepared than the car. We just wouldn’t want to line up against this guy at all.
