2000 Honda S2000

S2000 is 20 years old, but it has just 34 miles on the odometer, so it is practically new.

When someone bought the 2000 Honda S2000 shown here, it likely had an MSRP in the mid-to-low $30k range. That doesn’t sound like much today, but back in 2000, that was only a few thousand dollars less than the Chevrolet Corvette. In other words, the S2000 was out of financial reach for many younger Honda enthusiasts when they were new.

Fortunately, a 2000 S2000 listed for sale on the Dupont Registry website has just 34 miles on the odometer, so 20 years after it first hit the showroom floor, it is still in like-new condition. This car will be sold at the Mecum Kissimmee event that begins with weekend. This is a rare chance to buy a Honda S2000 in new condition, but if you are a serious buyer, you should be prepared to pay far more than this car cost when new. Based on past vehicle sales, the $70,000 mark is a very realistic possibility.

S2000 Details

This 2000 Honda S2000 is finished in Silverstone Metallic on the outside with black leather interior and a black soft top. It is powered by the F20C 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 240 horsepower and 153 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent towards the rear wheels by means of a 6-speed manual transmission while a torque-sensing limited slip differential and 16-inch, 5-spoke lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S-02 tires put the power to the ground. Handling is aided by independent in-wheel double wishbone suspension with iron arms, electronically-assisted power steering and four-wheel disc brakes.

Call for Price

There is no price listed for this 2000 Honda S2000, but we know that in early 2019, a black 2009 model sold in Bring-A-Trailer for $70,000. While some people prefer the more refined AP2, the AP1 has its charm for sure.

The AP1 has the higher-revving engine, but it has a little less torque. Of course, the fact that 2000 was the first model year adds to the collectable nature of the car, so it is reasonable to believe that this car could fetch more than the black AP2. Then again, when that AP2 sold back in 2019, the country wasn’t dealing with a pandemic that has many people watching their spending.

In any case, this flawless 2000 Honda S2000 is sure to sell for more than the original MSRP, but the owner will be receiving a like-new car that has been stored and protected for two decades.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
