Another Ultra-low Mile S2000 Hits the Marketplace

We’re not sure where these low mile S2000s are coming from, but they are selling for astonishingly high prices on every marketplace.

Not too long ago, we highlighted the outrageous price of this S2000 CR. It was one of the first times we have seen a newer car (especially a Honda) see huge appreciation in value. Typically these things are reserved for classic cars, but it appears as though the price isn’t a fluke. As it stands, this S2000 price phenomenon is about to happen yet again in the marketplace via this 1,000 mile AP2.

This Silverstone Metallic AP2 has an incredible amount of photos in its Bring-A-Trailer listing. They include everything from the standard exterior and interior pictures. But also included are undercarriage photos which still show factory paint markings, as well as photos with a paint thickness meter to prove the car’s originality.

This car, interestingly, does seem to have a dealer-installed appearance package. We spot a different lower front lip, strakes in front of the rear tires, and a rear deck-lid spoiler. All of these items could very well have been a factory option and been on the car “since new.” It will, however, be interesting to see if the addition of these items affects the overall value of the car. But then again, we’d need another low mile AP2 on the marketplace to compare it with.

In terms of value, let us not forget that S2000 CR mentioned above saw a $25,000 price increase in its last two hours of bidding. While this AP2 might not see the same final sale price, it still could come close. At time of writing with one day left in the auction, the price is already at $36,000. It could be the first “regular” S2000 to see a $50,000 price tag. Not bad for a car less than 15 years old.

But we do have to ask ourselves? Is this a trend that will continue or at some point will this bubble burst? If Honda ever dares to reincarnate their sports car any time soon, we have a feeling that could negatively affect the values somewhat. Then again, Honda today is not anywhere near the Honda that existed over a decade ago. The new car – if ever made – would certainly be more capable than an AP1 or AP2, but it would never have that high revving fizz, and that’s where the money is going.
