Built in America for the very first time, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is available with a no-cost manual.

With the all-new 2022 Honda Civic already on sale, everyone knew it would only be a matter of time before it was joined by the hatchback variant. Now, that day has finally arrived, and enthusiasts have a few reasons to celebrate the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback. While it cost a bit more than the latest Civic sedan, the hatch should prove to be well worth the extra outlay of cash for at least one reason – unlike the sedan, it’s available with a six-speed manual transmission.

Throw in the fact that the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback has quite a bit more cargo space than its sedan counterpart, and it certainly seems like a compelling option. Available in LX, Sport, EX-L, and Sport Touring configurations, powertrain options mirror those of the four-door Civic. Buyers can choose between Honda’s turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four-cylinder, which produces 180 horsepower, or the naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter I-4, which offers up 158 horsepower.

Those that want to row their own gears can do so with either Sport or Sport Touring trims, while all others come equipped with Honda’s continuously variable transmission (CVT). The good news is, on both trims, the manual gearbox is a no-cost option, which makes it a no-brainer for those of us that are dedicated to the three-pedal life.

Pricing for the 2022 Civic Hatchback starts out at $23,915, including a mandatory $1,015 destination charge, for base LX trim. Stepping up to the Sport and nabbing the cheapest manual – or automatic – will set you back at least $25,115. EX-L trimmed Civic Hatchbacks (which come with leather upholstery) start out at $27,615, while the range-topping Sport costs $30,415.

It’s also worth pointing out that the 2022 Civic Hatchback is built in America for the very first time at the automaker’s Greensburg, Indiana plant using both domestic and globally sourced parts. This follows a $50.2 million investment in the plant, which was needed to prepare it for the construction of the unique model.

Honda notes that the Hatchback has grown to account for one-quarter of total Civic sales thanks to its sporty nature and practicality, and now, it’s quite literally the only choice for enthusiasts – at least for now. Soon, the requisite Si and Civic Type R will rejoin the lineup, but for now, the Civic Hatchback represents a compelling and affordable option.
