1991 Honda Civic RT4WD 6 Speed Manual Wagon for Sale

Civic RT4WD is the ultimate snow-going Honda hatchback, just don’t mind the rust that comes along with it.

Normally, when we think of rare and desirable Hondas, it’s something with a high RPM B- or K-Series engine. However, if you rewind the clock a bit, there was a very different and desirable type of Honda on the market before Type R ever existed.

This is a 1991 Honda Civic RT4WD wagon. As the name implies, this Civic Wagovan has a Real Time 4WD system. It also has a 6-speed manual transmission, yes, all the way back in 1991. Of course, that’s something of a technicality, because this transmission is actually a 5-speed manual with a special “super low gear,” that’s quicker even than 1st gear, for traversing snowy climates.

Naturally, this most quirky of Civics was sold in relatively small numbers, and even fewer have survived nearly three decades of snow, salt and slush. However, this particular example, being sold in the forums by user bheinen74, has. Here is what the ad has to say about the car:

All known issues:
rear trailing bushings are worn out, they clunk. Rear struts worn out.
Gas guage is finicky, not always that accurate, but it does work.
in hard heavy rain, leaks water onto passenger floor mat, think it could be the wiper access cover seal.
Body is pretty dent free except the passegner rear quarter panel, it had a dent which I popped out when I got the car, there is rust on the passenger rear quarter, and it has just started to rust on the left rear quarter. The car came out of Colorado in about 2015 and the windshield is sandpitted/sandlbasted pretty good. There are no cracks are chips, just the pits all over. Driver seat has wear tears, but rest of interior basically mint and still clean.
As far as I know and can tell the car has not been repainted and has never had bodywork Paint on roof is sunfaded, and same for hood but not as bad. There is a chip in the driver headlight which has not leaked, I have heavy vinyl clear tape over the chip. The rear muffler is a little noisy, but I have a brand new stock I will provide with the car buyer.

Car is stock, except for the Acura Exhaust tips, and a older JVC CD stereo. The ***** which fold the rear seat backs down broke off, but can still fold seat down. Car has all the factory stuff, such as spare tire well organizer bin. Doesnt have udner seat tray or rear speaker pods
Has AC but I only winter drive the car. The AC comes on, but not sure how cold on a hot summer day it would be. Maybe a slight minor oil leak around the valve cover. Sometimes it will use some oil between changes, I have added about half a quart at about 1500 and I change the oil at 3000. It used more oil on full synthetic castrol, so I recently went to Castrol SynBlend High mileage, and it doesn use as much oil that way.
Tires are now 3 years old but about like new still, they are Hankook Snow tires.
My price is 3950 now 3800 now 3700 and it is firm. This car is daily driven every day in the winter 34 miles roundtrip each day to work, or more. It just went 700 miles roundtrip to KC and back, and I am going to take the car 850 miles rt Tuesday to pick a hood up for the Baja.

No I will not take trades.
No don’t make offers. 4100. now 3800. now 3700 will take the car home though.
New clutch and flywheel installed about 8k miles ago, cant remember for sure maybe not even that many miles.

So, it’s not perfect. But, what do you expect from an 28 year old car used explicitly for traversing rough Midwestern winters? Regardless, it’s a rare model in running condition, and, if you follow the thread this is one motivated seller, who looks ready to wheel and deal to get this Civic RT4WD sold. So, head over to the thread and make an offer.
